WWE 2K Battlegroundsis the latest professional wrestling game to be published by 2K Sports. Just like developer Saber Interactive’s previous title,NBA 2K Playgrounds 2,WWE 2K Battlegroundsis a fast-paced, arcade version of a long-running sports series. In fact,WWE 2K Battlegroundsactually took the place of 2K’s normal yearly WWE game, which was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the especially poor reception toWWE 2K20.
In the game players take control ofvarious WWE wrestlers, who have access to all kinds of oddball weapons and moves. This is where the game’s arcade-y style comes through, as all sorts of bizarre power-ups are available. Players will then use these moves to battle it out against other wrestlers in arenas all across the world. Only one of these arenas, New York, is available at the beginning of the game, and the rest will have to be unlocked through play.

The Battlegrounds
There are eight different arenas inWWE 2K Battlegrounds, each with a unique setting and their own special interactions. As a result, players will be able to throw their opponents out of helicopters or into the jaws of alligators fromScotland to the Everglades. Here’s the complete list of arenas in the game at launch:
These arenas can be chosen for any Exhibition match with any character, through the Match Configuration screen. However, unlocking them all requires a player to have completedWWE 2K Battlegrounds’Story mode. There’s also the potential for more arenas to be added to the game in the future, as well as a Battleground Creator option for players to make their own.
Across the World
In Story mode, players take control of a fictional wrestler for a series of one-on-one matches against thesuperstars of wrestling. Each of these matches will take place in a different region, which are scattered across the entire world. Players will need to complete each region to unlock its respective arena.
Once the region is complete the arena will be available for selection on the Match Configuration screen. Unlocking arenas isn’t the only benefit from the Story campaign however, as it will alsounlock otherWWE 2K Battlegroundsrewards. These can include superstars to play as, as well as special items. To begin the Story Mode, simply select Play from the main menu, followed by Champion.
