What the PS5 Version of The Medium Brings to the Table

The Medium’s dark, gritty, and sinister post-communism Poland setting is a sight to behold on every platform, and the PS5 version is just the icing on the cake. While fans have to wait to see how well the PS5 handlesThe Medium’s dual-worldrendition simultaneously, they can, however, get a glimpse of how it looks and what additional features it boasts for its $40 price tag.

Bloober Team, the studio behindThe Medium, recently released a three and half minutes long video detailing all the DualSense features that the PS5 version ofThe Mediumsupports. Marianne, the game’s protagonist who is also a spirit medium between the two worlds, can use plenty of abilities to traverse the world ofThe Medium.

The most common of them is the Spirit Blast, which now utilizes the adaptive triggers to create more tension. The more charged is the spirit blast, the lesser resistance players feel on the triggers while using it.The Mediumalso utilizes theDualSense’s haptic feedbackeffectively with players feeling the soring intensity of a swarm of moths attacking them from every angle.

InThe Medium, The Mawis a gigantic ferocious monster that cannot be defeated. Players have to take a stealthy approach and evade it every time it appears. To avoid getting detected by The Maw, Marianne can hold her breathe when in cover, and on PS5 thanks to the haptic feedback, players can know when Marianne is going to run out of breath.

InThe Medium, players can often come across objects of interest that they can inspect to find echoes — memories of the past. On the PS5, aside from the analog stick, players can also use the DualSense controller’s touchpad to inspect the same. Similarly, players can use the controller’s motion controls to examine various clues throughout the game instead of using the analog stick.

The Mediumon PS5 also takes advantage of DualSense’s in-built speaker and the lightbar. While cutting through grotesque skin-like obstacles along the way, players can hear the sound of the tools they are using through the speaker. Additionally, the DualSense’s lightbar replicates Marianne’s flashlight, which starts to flicker whenever The Maw is nearby.

These are some of the DualSense features confirmed for the PS5 version ofThe Medium. While thelack of Game Pass on PS5means that the PS5 players will have to purchaseThe Mediumto play it, the addition of well-thought out features makeThe Mediumon PS5 its most definitive version yet. The PS5 version should be appealing enough for horror enthusiasts to give it a try.

The Mediumlaunches for PS5 on June 10, 2025.
