Summary

IfRed Dead Redemption 3andGrand Theft Auto 6share a universe, both games could have something to gain from the move. With the two being Rockstar’s most popular series, there are some obvious upsides to establishing a connection between the two. Of course, it would have to be done in a way that makes sense for both games. Thankfully, bothRed Dead Redemption 3andGrand Theft Auto 6have the benefit of not necessarily being tied down to previous games in the series. That means that the next games could establish a solid connected timeline.

There were definitedifferences betweenRDR2andGTA 5, and despite being in the same genre and from the same developer, the two offered vastly different experiences.Red Dead Redemption 2went for a highly emotional story that set up the events of the firstRed Dead Redemption, whileGrand Theft Auto 5was more focused on guiding the player to wild and elaborate heists while indulging heavily in raunchy comedy. Despite their differences, both games managed to be major sellers, pushing Rockstar’s profile higher than ever. This is likely a major reason forGrand Theft Auto 6being as heavily anticipated as it is.

GTA 6 and RDR3 Could Bring Their Respective Worlds Together

Considering how it seems thatGTA 6is returning toVice City,Red Dead Redemption 3would likely need a change of location to Vice City’s early 1900s counterpart. This change could work inRed Dead Redemption 3’s favor, as a new setting would help it stand apart from past games in the series. Not to mention, it could be interesting to see what Vice City looked like a century in the past, particularly if any old landmarks are still noticeable inGTA 6. This way, players could see Vice City’s future as well as its past.

This phenomenon can also work in reverse in regards toGrand Theft Auto 6’s story. If both games are set in Vice City, thenGTA 6could include some subtle foreshadowing for planned elements forRed Dead Redemption 3. Perhaps there could be a side quest to search for treasure that could end up being left over from a part ofRed Dead Redemption 3’s plot. Another potential crossover could be forRDR3’s protagonist’s hat or gun to be unlockable as an Easter egg. It might seem like a random addition, butRed Dead Redemption 3’s eventual reveal would prove it to be a clue in plain sight.

An established timeline connection could also show of connections toclassic characters fromGrand Theft Auto’s past. While it may be a gimmicky idea, showing an ancestor or two of certainGrand Theft Autocharacters could be a fun surprise for longtime fans. Players could discover that an organization such as the Forelli Family had been running for decades longer than originally thought, or find a deadly gunman who turns out to be the ancestor ofVice City’s infamous Tommy Vercetti. This would be a quick way to establish connections, while also being a potentially enjoyable Easter egg for fans of the original characters in question.

WhileGTA 5featuredRed Dead RedemptionEaster eggs, the next games could go even further, and whenGrand Theft Auto6’s release datefinally arrives, players could end up seeing more concrete evidence tying the games to the same universe. Solidifying a shared universe opens the possibility of elements from one game making it into the other in some way, letting players see the effects of the passage of time. Proving thatRed Dead Redemption 3andGrand Theft Auto 6share a universe has the potential to lead to interesting results.
