WandaVisionhas long been seen as Marvel Studios’ first and most innovative production within the confines of the superhero film genre and if early reviews are to be trusted, the MCU sitcom delivers everything producer Kevin Feige has promised.
So far, sneak peeks and teasers forWandaVisionhave suggested the series does not play lightly with its old sitcom inspirations borrowing elements from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, especially beloved shows likeThe Brady Bunch. All that coupled withWandaVisionreceiving a slightly lower age ratingthan Marvel movies points to a plot less driven by action and instead relying on its uniqueness and improbable setting.

These first impressions from critics derive fromWandaVision’sfirst three episodes, out of which the firsttwo will be instantly available on Disney Plusthis Friday. Steven Weintraub from Collider notes how the series is willing to take risks, while Fandom’s Eric Goldman highlighted thatWandaVisionis proof that not all superhero stories are the same, calling it “trippy and intriguing”.
German Lussier from Gizmodo called it “weird and hilarious,” something echoed by most critics, who also made clear that the show’s lightheartedness does not mean it shies away from establishing a mysterious plot along the way. ScreenRant’s Tessa Smith simply calls it “banana pants crazy – in the best way possible!” to sum upthe originality behindWandaVision.
A lot of reviewers also noted how the first few episodes are only slightly over the 30-minute mark, something very reminiscent of what a sitcom would be like. However, it would appearWandaVisionepisodes start getting longer as the show progresses, after all for all the fun and games Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany share on screen, the series still has to set up theDoctor Strangesequel.
In just a few days Marvel will be back in action withWandaVisionofficially kicking off phase 4. That position originally would have belonged toBlack Widow, but pandemic delays have instead left the Avengers couple with that honor.
WandaVisionwill premiere exclusively on Disney+ on August 04, 2025.
