Swedish studio Iron Gate Studio’s procedurally generated “brutal exploration and survival” gameValheimhas picked up a massive and loyal following since its release in February 2021. The huge Norse-inspired world ofValheimallows players to either play solo or alongside up to nine other players.Valheimcould be considered a “Viking-style Sims” where players need to take care of their character’s needs, but with the addition of making sure they don’tget murdered byValheim’s trollsor other creatures lying in wait. Valheim’s Maypoles
Maypoles are extremely rare structures found in the middle of abandoned villages inValheim’s sandbox worlds.Biomes are a significant part of gameplayand a player’s progression, and these Maypoles can only spawn in the Meadows biome.
In general, Maypoles are non-interactable, non-moveable structures that provide a +1 Comfort Level to players in their vicinity. However, they are destroyable, and once destroyed they do not respawn. Maypoles are otherwise useless except to provide Comfort Level within a small radius and look cool. Players are not entirely sure how wide this radius is, with guesses typically centered around 8 meters, so it’s recommended that players build them as close to the structure as possible.
InValheim, the Comfort Level of a player’s character increases the length of their Rested buff. Typically at Comfort Level 0, the buff lasts for seven minutes and increases by one minute per Comfort Level up to level 17, which provides players with a massive 24-minute Rested buff. A player’s comfort level can be increased and stacked with the use of objects like Maypoles, Campfires, and Beds in their Shelter.
The Rested buff is essential for a player’s XP gains and regeneration of Health and Stamina. This buff can make or break a player’s experience, especiallywhenValheimplayers plan to face a bossor when confronted by hordes of creatures coming to destroy their Shelters.
Can Maypoles Be Crafted In Valheim?
Since the discovery of Maypoles scattered around the Tenth Circle,Valheim’s fans have wanted to add these cool-looking structures to their Shelters and villages. Before the 0.155.7 patch was released in June 2021, players could only spawn a Maypole by usingValheim’s debug (creative) mode or hope that they would come across one as they progressed through their game. The crafting recipe could be found early in the game’s code, causing fans to suspect that it would one day be a possibility.
After the aforementionedValheimpatch was releasedand in celebration of the Swedish Midsummer Festival, the game’s developers made Maypoles a temporarily craftable item. Fans of the game rejoiced and started placing their own Maypoles around their Shelters and little villages. Crafting these structures required the use of an upgraded workbench, and the recipe for a Maypole is as follows.
Unfortunately, as of writing, Maypoles are currently not craftable and once again can only be spawned through the game’s creative mode.Iron Gate Studio’s roadmapdoesn’t mention Maypoles becoming craftable again any time soon. Be that as it may, fans ofValheimsuspect that Maypoles may become a craftable structure every Midsummer, so new players to the game could be able to add a Maypole to their little Viking homes very soon.
