Blood types dictate a player’s class archetype inV Rising, and it’s one of those things that everyone will want to pay attention to if they want to keep up with the competition. Irradiant Gruel is a type of consumable item that helps improve blood quality, but not in the way some might think.
While players can easilyset up a prison inV Risingfor all of their blood extraction needs, finding a subject with a good-enough blood quality is a whole different story. This is where Irradiant Gruel comes in. Here’s what you need to know about this curious consumable.

How To Get And Use Irradiant Gruel in V Rising
First, players will have to unlock the recipe for Irradiant Gruel by defeating Angram the Purifier, one of the bosses introduced inV Rising’s Secrets of Gloomrotupdate back in the game’s early access days. He’s a fairly tough boss, so be prepared for a long fight. Once you do beat him, you’ll be able to make Irradiant Gruel at an Alchemy Table by combining Mutant Grease and Plague Brier.
To use Irradiant Gruel, you must first capture an enemy by using theDominate Humanpower and leading them back to an empty prison cell in your castle. Once they’ve been locked behind bars, interact with the cell to open a new menu window. Among the options to feed the prisoner some food or extract their blood, you’ll see Irradiant Gruel as one of the possible actions (assuming you have some in your inventory). Click on that, and the prisoner will begin eating the gruel.

If you need Plague Brier orMutant Grease inV Rising, you’re able to farm some at home by making a garden or a Vermin Nest respectively.
After consuming Irradiant Gruel, your prisoner may have their blood quality improved by 1-2%. This is great if you have a prisoner with 99% blood quality and you really want to get it to 100%. However, feeding prisoners gruel also has a chance to turn them into a raging mutant, so it’s also likely that you’ll lose that almost max-quality blood forever. Once the prisoner turns into a mutant, it’ll immediately attack everything in the vicinity, forcing you to kill it.

The chance of Irradiant Gruel failing is 35%, which is fairly high. Unless you have several 99% prisoners in your castle, using these items on them is generally not recommended. Often times, it’s better to just hunt for good-quality victims andjust make Blood Merlotfrom them to preserve their lives more efficiently.
