AFallout 4mod that sets the game some two hundred years before the events of the main story has been updated, which brings with it some new features, including the ability for players to see hallucinations. Although many people considerFallout: New Vegasto be the best entryin the franchise, the fourth title is still a pretty solid Bethesda game, and while the vanilla experience alone is more than enough to keep players engaged for hundreds of hours, the community is consistently adding its own custom content.

Some would say that mods are a vital component in gaming, especially on the PC. WithBethesda having to cut content fromFallout 4before it was released, there’s always that “what if” moment when fans wonder whether what was left behind would have made an impact on the experience. Of course, others will simply add their own modifications, some of which can do wonderful things to the title. And then there are mods that are so ambitious, they practically stand alone as their own game.

As noted by PCGamesN,“FROST,” a pretty substantial mod forFallout 4, now offers some new content thanks to a recent update. Such additions include extra items, new perks and gameplay elements, and some balancing changes. One of the most notable things that’s been added is a “hallucination system” that lets players actually start to hallucinate if they become insane, with unique effects and the possibility of waking up in a different location. For anyone who missed it the first time, “FROST” is a total overhaul of the main game ofFallout 4, set during a Nuclear Winter in the year 2082, two centuries before the Sole Survivor in the main story emerges from Vault 111.

“FROST” is amod that changes so much inFallout 4, showing that there’s a lot still left to be explored in the post-apocalyptic RPG. With new stories, characters, locations, items, and more, fans are spoiled for choice when it comes to customizing their experience, in this or any other game that supports mods.

It’s also nice to see the game still getting a lot of attention after more than seven years. However, it’s likely there will be renewed interest soon asBethesda is releasingFallout 4on current-gen systems, and so there will potentially be a new audience experiencing the game for the first time. And hopefully the upgraded version ofFallout 4will encourage even more people to get involved in the modding community.

Fallout 4is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
