Chapter 4 Season 4 ofFortnitehas created hope that underused characters from past Battle Passes could become relevant in later seasons. Following the medieval storyline of the previous season, the current season has shifted to focus more on the new Mega City area as well as the Peace Syndicate, an organization that has been hinted at in the past, but not properly explored until now. With the Peace Syndicate’s new importance inFortnitecomes the emergence of the previously-unimportant Evie. With Evie seeming set for an important role, other characters' unused potential is also worth considering.
Evie first appeared as acharacter inFortniteChapter 3 Season 3, being instantly unlocked by anyone who upgraded their battle pass. She was introduced as a criminal with a mysterious past, and a member of a group called the Peace Syndicate. The Peace Syndicate is playing a big part in the current season’s story, but beforehand, it existed primarily as a line in Evie’s description. As Chapter 4 Season 2 is in its opening phase, Evie seems to be taking a role similar to A.M.I.E. from the last few seasons by explaining the player’s missions. This duty so far has been shared with her boss, season newcomer Thunder. Going forward, it could be worth giving more battle pass characters a prominent role like Evie.

Fortnite’s Battle Passes Are Full Of Characters With Story Potential
One good candidate toreturn likeFortnite’s hurdle mechanicwould be Stratus from way back in Season 9. In addition to having a cool look, the name and items in his associated Storm Stalker set could hint towards knowledge of or a connection to the storm that engulfs the island every game, which could give him a unique storyline role. There is also Ember from Season 8, and elf with flaming hands who could surely tell an interesting story. Another interesting example would be Shanta, who debuted as the first character in Chapter 3 Season 1’s battle pass and had quests to collect her armor, yet had no storyline despite that.
Much likeFortnite’s gone-too-long plague doctor skins, Chapter 4 Season 1 turned out to be a great example of characters whose potential was not realized. Aside from The Ageless, none of Chapter 4 Season 1’s skins had anything to do with the storyline, despite some interesting concepts. The pass included lunar-powered Selene, free-spirited skater Massai, monster-slaying baseballer Dusty, CGI mystic Nezumi, andDOOM’s famous Doom Slayer. With so many cool concepts, it’s a shame that none of them did anything aside from being simple NPCs. The case is especially painful for Nezumi, who would have fit perfectly into Chapter 4 Season 2’s futuristic Japanese theme.
The most underused, potentially plot-relevant skin is Twyn fromFortnite’s Chapter 3 Season 4 Battle Pass. Twyn is essentially two skins in one that can be swapped between with an emote, similar to Joey from the Invasion season. They are described as a member of the Peace Syndicate, and if the player is playing as them, Evie and Thunder even have special greetings for them in the current season. However, they have never even appeared as an NPC on the island. With the Peace Syndicate becoming a big part of the story, it feels like Twyn should be a part of that.
The introduction of Mega City and rise of the Peace Syndicate have provided a perfect argument for bringing backskins fromFortnite’s battle passesthat weren’t used in the plot during their debut.Previous seasons have shown thatFortnite’s ongoing story can change on a dime, so it’s nearly impossible to rule a character out of future plotlines. With so many characters already introduced, and more constantly being added,Fortnitehas a nearly infinite amount of storyline potential. In the coming months, it will be interesting to see if any more ofFortnite’s past characters make a comeback.
Fortniteis available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
