PopularTwitchstreamers come and go as some retire and others boom in popularity, and although a few maintain a strong following throughout their careers, some struggle to reach the great heights they saw early on. During aTwitchlivestream, Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar spoke candidly in response to criticism about his channel “falling off.”

During a recent Twitch stream, Summit1g addressed some comments about his channel slowing down compared to previous years in his lengthy career, and he acknowledged that the statistics fluctuate. Summit1g has been streaming to the Amazon platform since long before it was called Twitch, and it was known as Justin.TV. He has reached a following of 6.1 million and regularly maintains thousands of live viewers. Beyond Summit1g, other streamers that have struggled to keep the same numbers they once had include2021 Twitch champion xQc, Dr Disrespect, and Greekgodx.

Summit1g is normallylivestreaming games likeElden Ring,PUBG, andDay Z, but he dips in and out of the Just Chatting Twitch category like other content creators to interact with his community as questions and comments pour in. When asked about his lower numbers, Summit1g stated that normal channels will experience fluctuations and there are multiple factors that may play a role in his and other streamers' numbers. Just like with other Twitch streamers that swapped games in the past, Summit1g confirmed that game choice can decrease or increase a channel’s numbers and that personality and mood can as well.

Perhaps unfazed by the lower numbers on his Twitch channel lately, Summit1g stated that there’s “no point worrying about where it’s at every single day, or how fast it grew.” Summit1g referenced having long-time fans and doubters over the last ten years that contributed to a chat that may have played a part in his growth, while he also acknowledged the time invested in a channel may improve its statistics. Summit1g saw his greatest success before 2015 but had a spike in followers in 2018 as well as an average of over 100,000 concurrent viewers in April 2020 when he was playing a mix ofGTA RPon the No Pixel server,Sea of Thieves, andValorant.

Although Summit1g spoke honestly about his decline in viewership since April 2020, the Twitch streamer may regain popularity in the future should one of the many factors he highlighted change. While he hints that top-tier content creators don’t experience the changes that most livestreamers do, the fact that xQc has been surpassed by channels like thestreamer of the year Ludwig, Tfue, Ibai, and Auronplay is evidence that even the primary faces of Twitch change.
