Since the announcement ofThe Witcher, the forthcoming Netflix series based on Andrzej Sapkowski popular fantasy novels, a myriad of promotional materials have given fans frequent peeks at this highly-anticipated adaptation. Just yesterday, for example,newThe Witcherpostersoffered yet another look at the series' renderings of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, but visuals from the show are not all that fans currently have access to, as music from the series is now available to be enjoyed as well.
More specifically, the theme forGeralt of Rivia,The Witcher’s primary protagonist, has been revealed, and it can be heard below. According to IndieWire, this is a composition thatThe Witcherviewers will become intimately familiar with during their time with the show, as the title sequence for each episode will feature a variation of the theme. It is further indicated that each variation will be aligned with the “overall tone and soundscape” of the episode it precedes, which means that fans can look forward to hearing both triumphant and dark renditions of the piece.

As with the other arrangements inThe Witcher, the “Geralt of Rivia” theme was composed by Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli, and Belousova revealed some of the considerations surrounding the piece in a conversation with IndieWire. Namely, the composer emphasized that the theme needed to not only be “immediately inviting,” but it also had to have a flexibility that would allow it to be turned into something darker and more foreboding when needed.
Additionally, the duo indicated that they did not look to the music of previousThe Witcherofferings when composing “Geralt of Rivia” or any of the sereis' other themes. This may come as a disappointment to fans that love that music featured inCD Projekt Red’s acclaimedThe Witchervideo game series, but those feelings may be assuaged upon hearing Belousova and Ostinelli’s theme for the White Wolf.
Indeed,The Witcher’s “Geralt of Rivia” theme is a grand arrangement, featuring violin, lute, harmoniums, and much more. While it will certainly not be to every fan’s taste, many will find a lot to love in the piece, and it seems that they will be hearing quite a bit of it whenThe Witcher’s release datearrives later this month.
