Director Matthew Vaughn’sThe Kingsmanfilm franchise will continue with a third installment titledThe King’s Man. Although the upcoming film is is a prequel toKingsman: The Secret ServiceandKingsman: The Golden Circle, Vaughn recently revealed the prequel will provide hints at what’s to come inKingsman 3.

Currently scheduled to be released in theaters next month,The King’s Manwill chronicle the origins of the franchise’s eponymous secret service organization. Set during World War I, the prequel will introduce newcomers to the film series, including Ralph Fiennes as the Duke of Oxford, Harris Dickinson as his son, Conrad, and Gemma Arterton as Polly.

WhileThe King’s Manwill take place roughly a century beforeKingsmanheroes Harry Hart and Eggsy crossed paths, Vaughn told Empire that audiences can expect to see hints at what to expect fromKingsman3. “We’ve put seeds for what’s going to happen inKingsman 3all the way back into this […] and it’s going to be very different,” he explained. While Vaughn had initially planned to hand the directing reigns to another filmmaker forKingsman 3, he noted that he may be reconsidering this position, saying, “I actually don’t know what I want to do. There is an opportunity for a director to really change it up, but I’m considering it.”

Full details on the plot forThe King’s Manare currently under wraps. However, the official synopsis for the film reveals that the story will involve some of history’s “worst tyrants and criminal masterminds” formulating a plot to wipe out millions.

Based on the comic book series created by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar,Kingsman: The Secret Serviceproved to a hit with movigoers and at the box office. However,Kingsman: The Golden Circlewas not received nearly as well, despite being a financial success.

Fortunately, the response toThe King’s Mantrailerhas been generally positive and at the very least, it seems to offer audiences something a little different from the previous entries in the film series. IfThe King’s Man proves to be a success, it may restore some of the goodwill with audiences that might have been lost afterThe Golden Circle.

The King’s Manwill be released in theaters on August 09, 2025.
