InBaldur’s Gate 3, the party can only truck along for so long before they need to hunker down for the night. In classicDungeons & Dragonsfashion, this takes the form of taking a Long Rest, where companions can sleep, have a much-needed meal, and have their mortal wounds magically disappear overnight.

But in order to set up camp, one must have supplies. Thankfully, there are plenty of crates, barrels, vases, and vendors where players can get the necessary provisions. Most of the time, these are nondescript foodstuffs, but Larian Studios can’t help but throw in fun details wherever possible. Here are some camp supplies that are more fun than they had any right to be.

Suspicious Meat

7Suspicious Meat

Try Not To Think About It

Cannibalism is frowned upon inmostSword Coast societies, but notallof them. Several evil lairs throughout the game stock their kitchen tents with all manner of putrid grub. Some of them, like the goblin camp, even have the roasted remains of dwarven body parts. Thankfully, the main party would never stoop so low, no matter how hungry. Right?

There’s no definitive answer for what the Suspicious Meat is. Players can do what the in-game description suggests and just choose to believe it’s just the thigh of one especially lanky pig. But if some players preferred selling this meat hunk off to a less scrupulous vendor, well, there’s no shame in that.

Salami

Who Has Done the Salami-Only Run?

Baldur’s Gate 3has plenty of dried, salted, and cured meats for the carnivorous companion. Looting someone’s cupboard is bound to turn up plenty of dried sausages and hams. But the Salami is a special case. It holds the distinction of being the only camp supplies that doubles as a melee weapon.

That’s right: players can give a Salami to a companion toswing like a club. It doesn’t do an impressive amount of damage or anything. But the simple fact that Larian Studios eventhoughtof this is nothing short of amazing. Some people dip their weapons in poison. Others dip them in mustard.

Alcohol

Nothing Like Adventuring While Hungover

The Sword Coast has an impressive selection of wines, beers, and other alcoholic beverages, far too many to list here. From the finest vintages from Rosymorn Monastery to the Baldurian equivalent of cheap box wine, the game developers sure had fun thinking of ways this continent likes to booze it up.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with popping open a bottle or two with the regular food rations during a Long Rest. However, the player can also choose toonlyuse alcohol for the night’s provisions. This causes the party to wake upstillinebriated from the night before.Thisobald Thormwould be proud.

Neogi Claws

4Neogi Claws & Rolls

The Feast of Champions, Seasoned With Spite

It’s fun to learn about the cuisine of other cultures, especially when they exist in other planes of existence. The githyanki are a warmongering people who traverse the Astral Plane for worlds to plunder and conquer. They’ve slaughtered countless aberrations and found many tasty uses for the spoils of battle.

Gamers who have never seen a neogi before should count themselves lucky. These monsters would be the ugliest creatures in the game, even more than the squid-faced mind flayers. Hopefully, neogi meat tastes better than it looks. At leastLae’zelseems to like it.

Owlbear Egg

Plenty of Ways To Prepare It

Stumble into the wrong cave in Act 1, and players will come across oneangry mother owlbear. After her demise at the hands of some goblins (or the player), she leaves behind one adorable cub and one unhatched egg.

Now, playerscouldsimply fry up the world’s biggest omelet during a Long Rest.Orthey could pass it off as a githyanki egg for a quest in Act 1. For extra mileage, players couldthenkill the quest-giver or simply steal the owlbear eggbackafter getting the quest reward.

Bex Cookies

2Bex’s Handmade Cookies

Best Quest Reward Ever

Some quest-givers don’t have much to offer, and that’s okay. For many of the tiefling refugees players encounter throughout the game, all they can offer is a hearty thanks and maybe a small crowdsourced collection of gold. For good-aligned players, that’s all they could ask for.

But forBex, even though she only has the clothes on her back and little else, thanks just isn’t enough. If players manage to rescue the love of her life from Moonrise Towers, she rewards them the only way she can: a fresh tray of piping-hot cookies. A job well done never felt so sweet.

Grilled Space Hamster

1Grilled Miniature Giant Space Hamster

Don’t Look, Boo!

Minscinsists that his travel companion Boo is no normal hamster, but a miniature version of giant space hamsters from the Astral Plane. While this is mostly just a running gag for laughs, therearesome hints throughout the game that he might actually be right.

The most morbid of these hints is this skewered delicacy right here. Lae’zeldidhint that miniature giant space hamsters did exist, but who knew the gith liked to serve them up kebab-style? Perhaps Boo should make like a certain vampire and avoid pointy sticks for the time being.
