The Coalition is currently hiring for work on an unannouncedGears of Wartitle. The company’s last release wasGears Tacticsin 2020 which is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. However, their latest mainline release was actuallyGears 5. That game came out in 2019, so a lot of time has actually passed since a third-person shooter entry in theGearsfranchise.
In a rumor earlier in February 2023,The Coalition had seemingly canceled work on two gamesto work on what was reported to beGears 6. However, going only by industry insider Jeff Grubb’s words, the insinuation was thatGears of War 6will definitely be the next game that the team will release. With this mostly being hearsay, it’s still difficult to pinpoint the accuracy of that statement. The last project that The Coalition worked on wasThe Matrix Awakens, which was basically a tech demo. However, new signs definitely point out that The Coalition is surely preparing for aGearsentry.

In a job posting on Microsoft’s career page, The Coalition is currently looking for a Senior Gameplay Designer specifically forGears of War. Whether it’sGears 6or a spin-off likeGears Tacticsis still a question, but for sure, the IP is for theGearsfranchise. The job posting indicates that the candidates should have experience in “Character, Camera, and Controls” (3Cs) and artificial intelligence systems. This isn’t the first time The Coalition listed anopen job for aGears of Warproject, as it also did so in July 2022.
With more speculation thatGears 6is getting more team members, the rumblings continue to get stronger. Hopefully, the collective rumors and job postings prove true and gamers finally get the long-awaited sequel that they crave.
On the other hand, with additionalrumors that aGears of War Remastered Collectionis also in the works, the job posting could also be for that project. Ideally, most fans would prefer a new experience rather than a re-tread of a previous one. However, with the big jump in technology, it could also be interesting to see old entries in theGearsfranchise reimagined for modern consoles. The first entry in the franchise was first released in 2006 and was developed by Epic Games. It would definitely be a fresh take if The Coalition decides to remake or remaster the first three entries.
