Star Warsis a unique franchise, in that it’s got a rich and storied legacy dating back over 40 years, but it’s also not afraid to keep introducing fresh new elements to the mix. AsThe Book of Boba Fettstar Ming-Na Wen proves, those elements could include anything from lore adjustments to brand new characters who manage to become fan-favorites in their own right.
Frankly, it’s refreshing to see a series that’s able to add such substantial and beloved new aspects even so many years down the line. Sure, theStar Warsfandom has a tendency to shoot down anything that attempts to do anything truly interesting with the formula likeRian Johnson’s incredibleThe Last Jedi. But that’s not the focus today.Star Warshas just released a short featurette giving a certain well-liked new character a brief time to shine, and it’s honestly pretty heartwarming to see.

MulanandAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.star Ming-Na Wen joined theStar Warsfranchise in the first season ofThe Mandalorianon Disney Plus, where her role as bounty hunter Fennec Shand appeared to be a one-time character who straight up died at the end of the episode. However, since then, she’s gone on to return as Fennec not only inseason 2 ofThe Mandalorian, but also in 2 other series, all in the span of a couple years. Not bad for a newbie. In this featurette, Wen speaks highly of her time so far with theStar Warsfranchise and her current role onThe Book of Boba Fett.
“I was investing so much of myself into this role,” she says about Fennec. “It’s really a dream role of a lifetime.” She’s also joined bydirector Robert Rodriguezand co-star Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett), with the former praising Fennec as “the ultimate foil to Boba” and the latter fondly saying, “she has a great spark; we have great chemistry.”
Aside fromThe MandalorianandThe Book of Boba Fett, Wen can also be seen (or heard, anyway) as Fennec in several episodes ofthe animated seriesThe Bad Batch. This further establishes her character as a relentless bounty hunter whom Boba Fett likely saw as a valuable asset and ally rather than just a random dying person he could help out of the goodness of his heart when he found her out in the dunes of Tatooine. It’s interesting how only a few appearances can embellish a character so much.
Once again, Wen can currently be seen as Fennec on the new Disney Plus seriesThe Book of Boba Fett, and she likely has a lot more of her own story to tell. So check out the series to see more of what makes this adept mercenary tick, and maybe giveThe MandalorianandThe Bad Batchanother viewing for good measure.
The Book of Boba Fettcurrently airs new episodes every Wednesday on Disney Plus.
