Tabletop gaming giantWarhammerhas long been a part of the video game space, with both itsWarhammer 40kandWarhammer: Age of Sigmarfranchises frequently adding new titles to PCs and consoles. While some titles over the years have brought the game and its countless characters to life in numerous ways, there is no denying the success of the strategy games that Games Workshop has commissioned to make the tabletop experience more accessible than ever.
One such title isWarhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, which has now made a transition to console, bringing the classic strategy of the real-life game to screens with a complimentary storyline and a host of challenges for the Grey Knights chapter of the Space Marines to overcome. The game features four core classes, including the ranged specialist Purgator class. Here isthe best loadout for the Purgator classto rid the galaxy of Nurgle’s disease in the name of the Emperor.

What is The Purgator Class in Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters?
One of the four mainclasses of Grey Knightsyou will encounter on your journey aboard The Baleful Edict, the Purgator class specializes in picking apart foes from a distance by using a number of iconic weapons from theWarhammer 40,000franchise. While it is a formidable opponent and a genuine threat from close range, using its plethora of tactical equipment and ranged weapons, the Purgator can lay waste to Nurgle’s filth before they can get too close to your squad.
Given its proficiency from range, your loadout for your Purgators, from the Skill Tree selections all the way to the items they carry with them, shouldsupport an offense that prioritizes effective practices from a distance. Consider using guns and items that are effective from range and hold them in higher stead than the close-range arsenal at your disposal.

Best Purgator Build in Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
Ranged Weapon: Psilencer
While the Psycannon makes an excellent case for the Purgator class, the increased range and ammunition of the Psilencer make it a perfect companion for a class that favors range. Not only does this weapon cover distance better than any other inWarhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, the perks attached to it make ideal support for the rest of your squad. Using the Disruptshot ability enables a Purgator to inflict Disrupt status on an enemy, which disables any active abilities and automatic strikes. This is particularly effective for enemies, particularly Plague Marines, that have the Overwatch ability and attempt to pin a squad member down.
Of all the Psilencers inChaos Gate, theVictory’s Testamentis undoubtedly the most effective on account of its enhanced range and increase in critical damage percentages. Outside of that, however, the likes ofCensureandDoom’s Endare also incredibly effective, as they both have a range that exceeds the standard-issue Psilencer and will inflict different status effects on enemies.

Melee Weapon: Halberd
Melee weapons of any kind are lethal in the hands ofa well-trained Space Marine, but in the case of the Purgator class, defense should be the key consideration in an ideal loadout. TheHalberdis the most defensive of the blades available to the Purgator class and comes with a handy perk. With the First Strike ability, Marines wielding a Halberd will have a 25% chance of automatically attacking a foe if they come next to them. Considering you want to maintain your distance with this class, it can be an effective defensive measure and leave your opponent vulnerable to a killing blow next turn.
Of the Halberds you may encounter on your mission to wipe out Nurgle’s influence, the most effective options for an ideal build areTitans WrathandLightsinger, as they both have the added perk of being able to inflict a knockback effect on enemies. Not only is this a great way to create space between you and your foes, it can also be lethal if the opponent is standing next to a ledge.
Armor: Power Armor
Space Marines are always equipped with the highest-tech weaponry and equipment, including thePower Armorthat gives them their iconic look. While this armor is standard-issue for all Marines, it is invaluable for the needs of the range-friendly Purgator. While the Terminator Armor boasts a much higher protection rating, the mobility included in the Power Armor is invaluable. By enabling your Grey Knight to leap over gaps and climb up walls, it is the perfect addition to their loadout as it opens up further opportunities to find vantage points to pick-off enemies from a safe position.
While you may’t really go wrong with any of the Power Armor variants you will find inWarhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, you should favor armor that features slots formobility, movement speed, focus, and grenade proficiency, as the additional Wargear will help to damage foes in great numbers and maintain distance. With this in mind, Power Armors such asKeeper of the FlameandKantu’s Embraceare ideal candidatesto battle daemonswith.
Wargear: Grenade
They’re not always the prettiest way to dispose of hostiles, butgrenadesare certainly effective in causing mass amounts of damage to multiple foes, should they be unfortunate enough to be standing too close to one another. When it comes to the Purgator class of Grey Knights, it is difficult to look past a handheld explosive as an additional piece of combat equipment. Based on the sheer volume of damage they are capable of alone, grenades are an ideal addition to a Purgator’s loadout because they will leave enemies vulnerable to a killing blow if the explosion itself doesn’t do the job.
There are a multitude of grenade options available inWarhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, but the most effective for a Purgator build should prioritize the exposure or creation of weaknesses. Because of this, the best candidates for the Purgator areKrak Grenades, for their ability to break through enemy armor, orEmpyrean Brain Mines, as they can inflict Stun status effects. The latter is particularly useful as a stunned enemy will be vulnerable to execution via a melee weapon or a few well-placed projectiles from a bolter.
