Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2has a lot of military jargon that can be hard to parse through at first. There are generally some inspiring, smart, and funny quotes to take away from the experiences in-between all of the military chatter though. That’s why it is recommended to play with headphones and to enable subtitles.

Doing so can enhance the experience ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2tenfold. The audio design is one of the best parts of any entry in this series. Of the many good lines in the game, these fantastic quotes stick out the most and are one ofthe best thingsabout the experience.

This list contains spoilers for the single-player campaign ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Shepherd in Modern Warfare 2

1“What Time Is It Now?”

Shepherd says this to Laswell in one ofthe opening cutscenesof the game. Laswell comes to Shepherd with intel that Hassan seems to be planning something. When she asks what time she should prep the mission Shepherd delivers this line in response.

It’s a great line to show how urgent the matter is to him. This is more significant later once players find out that Shepherd is partly to blame for Hassan coming into power in the first place.

2“Steamin’ Jesus.”

This seems to be one of Soap’s catchphrases that he says throughout the game. The first time he utters this exact line is when he helps uncover Hassan’s missiles with Ghost. It turns out their worst fears were true and that Hassan truly was up to no good.

In a later mission, Soap modifies this line and says, “Steamin’ bloody Jesus” after he watches the oil rig blow up on the water. It’s a cool explosion and a great way to wrap up a fun mission inModern Warfare 2.

3“Hassan Has Been Passing Out Missiles Like It’s F***king Halloween And We Didn’t Know About It?”

Shepherd goes offon a tangent to Laswell once Ghost reports back about Hassan’s missiles. The idea that missiles are like candy is a horrifying thought to Shepherd and, presumably, it would be just as scary in reality. Parents already have to be wary about kidnappers during Halloween or candy being poisoned.

Just imagine the fear that would come out if it was determined terrorists were secretly giving kids armed weapons for treats instead of candy. Now that would make for a fun piece of Halloween DLC forModern Warfare 2but it would not be cool in real life.

4“I’m Afraid Of Ghosts.”

Rodolfo says this to Alejandro once they pick up Ghost and Soap intheir armored vehicleat the airport. It’s a great first meet-up for two baller teams in the game and they seem to hit it off naturally.

Ghost can be intimidating to his opponents but his mask also creates some confusion which is what Rodolfo was trying to point out with his joke. Why does Ghost hide his face behind a silky mask even when with his teammates? There are a lot of unanswered questions about Ghost inModern Warfare 2and, hopefully, the sequel will get down to the bottom of things.

5“Don’t Make A Deal With Her, It Won’t End Well!”

This line was said by Alejandro once he finds out they picked up Valeria at the cartel house. He had no idea she was the new head of the new organization. The two worked together in the military before Valeria botched a mission and cost people their lives. Alejandro would probably not trust Valeria even if she wasn’t the head of the cartel based on their history.

He warns the others she is laying a trap and that he was right. What Alejandro didn’t know was that Graves was laying a trap of his own, making Alejandro’s life even worse. This leaves theend of the campaignon a cliffhanger as a deal is eventually made with Valeria despite his warning.

6“Soldier, I Don’t Make Threats, I Make Guarantees.”

The aforementioned trapGraves set upwas him taking over Alejandro’s base. When Soap and the others confront him about the takeover, Graves warns them to back off. This takeover is not a negation but a fact of life that Shepherd signed off on.

This was the first clue that Shepherd was up to no good this whole time. At this point though, players still probably had no idea Graves and Shepherd were the ones responsible for giving Hassan the missiles.

7“The Only Thing That Can Kill Alejandro Is Alejandro.”

Things go poorly when Graves takes over the base with that last conflict. Alejandro gets arrested, with Soap and Ghost barely getting away with their lives. Eventually, the two reunite and make their way to a safe house Alejandro told Ghost about. It’s here that they meet up with Rodolfo, who was also in hiding.

They make a plan to rescue Alejandro from Graves’ men and, along the way, Rodolfo tells Soap and Ghost this line about Alejandro. It shows that Alejandro will do anything for the cause and will keep fighting until he himself takes his life.

8“No Russian.”

“No Russian” is perhaps one of the most infamous lines intheCall of Dutyseries. It’s from the original 2009 version ofModern Warfare 2. It refers to a mission wherein players must go undercover and mow down an airport full of civilians. This is all to capture Makarov, who is teased in the final stinger of this game.

The man on the plane gets the “No Russian” text message and gets out of his seat. This could be Makarov or it could be one of his soldiers instructed to take the plane down once the message goes through.
