When thinking ofNew Tales from the Borderlands’ funniest moments, there are likely going to be a few that come to mind. The frogurt expert Fran’s recollection of her traumatic backstory is one of these highlights, as is the old school JRPG fight sequence where players control her mech form. The sexy intern’s dance is a highlight as well, as is the moment where all the playable characters intentionally shoot each other. However, when it comes to consistently funny content, the Tediore Corporation’s soldiers deserve lots of praise.

New Tales from the Borderlandsslotting Tediore into the villain role was an interesting turn for the brand, especially with it being the butt of many jokes from Rhys and the other CEOs over the years. Fortunately, this incompetence is highlighted through the clumsy and silly Tediore soldiers, with many memorable interactions had between the cast and these armored figures throughout the story.

Tediore’s Many Funny Soldiers Add Personality To New Tales from the Borderlands

Thoughthe assassin bot L0U13is sure to capture the hearts of most players, some Tediore soldiers are shockingly likable. One example of this likability occurs early in the story, where a pair of Tediore grunts encourage each other as they interrogate Fran about the location of Octavio. One randomly tells the other they love them before their partner reciprocates, which will get a laugh out of most gamers due to how unexpected and sweet it is.

Another fun Tediore interaction comes in the form of two soldiers having a suicide fight withOctavio, as their carelessness ultimately leads to them making a silly mistake and getting out of Octavio’s way. Shortly before this, a great interaction with the Tediore soldier guarding Octavio’s cell occurs, as the guard begrudgingly helps Octavio through his feelings of failure and worthlessness. The way that Octavio is encouraged after escaping only adds to the joke, as it feels like he forged a connection with his captors.

More great Tediore moments include Octavio tricking a soldier into saying their name so that L0U13 can intervene, or a pair of Tediore goons discussing how adorableBrock the talking gunis. Through their various interactions, the Tediore soldiers manage to evoke the same type of humor as the hit web seriesRed vs. Blue, and in doing so they will often steal the attention away from the main cast. Further, though all their interactions are fun and improve the experience, one Tediore soldier stands above the rest: the Badass Superfan.

Vaultlanders is a simple but entertaining mini-gamethat sees gamers doing battle with iconic characters from across theBorderlandsseries, using the special moves and stats attached to their figures to gain an edge in certain fights. All the battles in the game take place against one diehard fan of Vaultlanders who just so happens to work for Tediore, and his reactions to losing make him oddly endearing. His ability to appear in random drawers, rooms, and so on only adds to his appeal, and he makes it much easier to get invested in Vaultlanders since the scenes that feature him are so comedic.

IfNew Tales from the Borderlands’ storyfeatured a generic military instead of what fans ended up getting, the game would be significantly weaker and would lack a big chunk of its humor. The decision to imbue the various Tediore soldiers with so much personality, even though they all look the exact same, proved to be a brilliant decision on Gearbox’s end. Hopefully,Borderlandsfans will get to see more of Tediore’s bumbling military in future releases.

New Tales from the Borderlandsis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
