Summary
Bethesda is launching a surpriseStarfieldupdate later today, June 9. The imminent release promises to introduce a wide variety of new content, ranging from gear and locations to the first wave ofStarfieldmods, as well as the official tools to make more.
The surprise update was announced as part of the June 2024 Xbox Games Showcase. Bethesda also used the event as an opportunity to share the first official look atStarfield’s Shattered Space expansion.

New Starfield Update Expands on the Tracker’s Alliance
Following the DLC’s two-minute trailer, the livestream transitioned to the announcement of a surpriseStarfieldupdate that’s set to launch in the coming hours. The incoming content drop will expand on the Tracker’s Alliance with the introduction of newStarfieldbounty hunting jobs. The promo suggests that the Tracker’s Alliance may also be getting a unique questline, though Bethesda has yet to outright confirm that.
Starfield Mods and Tools To Make More Are About To Drop
A potentially even bigger addition arriving as part of the update is theStarfieldCreation Club. As was the case withFallout 4andSkyrim, this platform will offer players access to a variety of Bethesda-approved mods. The Xbox Games Showcase trailer revealed several such add-ons, including the Starborn Gravis Suit, Constellation Plushie Set, and Ancient Mariner Module. The June update will also mark the arrival of Creation Kit 2,Starfield’s official modding toolset that Bethesda has been testingsince at least February 2024.
Since all of the game’s existing mods that launched since September 2023 have been made with comparatively primitive tools like hex editors, it’s all but certain that the upcoming update will break the vast majority of them. But the patch is still good news for the RPG’s modding scene, as the arrival of official mod tools means tinkerers can finally start conjuring up much more complex mods, ranging from new locations and questlines to total conversions. The arrival of Creation Kit 2 hence marks the start of Bethesda coming good on itspromise thatStarfieldwill be a modder’s paradise.
The Xbox Games Showcase trailer also offered a glimpse of some other additions that are part of the June 9 update. Those include new locations, one of which will be a space station, as well as some extra gear in the form of a space suit and a devastating heavy weapon that shoots laser beams. The developer has yet to share the official changelog detailing the upcoming patch, so it’s possible that the update may have some more surprises in store once it drops.
