What Rank Of Angel Is Castiel?

Castiel made his debut in the premiere of season four. AfterDean Winchester (Jensen Ackles)was killed and taken to Hell as payment for a demon deal to save his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki), the season four opener saw Dean gripped tight and raised from perdition by Castiel.

As an angel, Castiel’s true form can’t be perceived by humans without them dying or having their eyes burned out of their heads. Therefore, Castiel took Jimmy Novak, a devout man who prayed for such a thing, as his vessel. Castiel battled through Hell to save Dean due to his importance in the impending war between Heaven and Hell.

When he first appears, Castiel is part of the Host of Heaven. These are the soldiers of Heaven and Castiel is one of the top soldiers in its ranks. He frequentlyappears with fellow angelUriel (Robert Wisdom) who is considerably less forgiving and gentle with the Winchesters than Castiel is. Eventually, Uriel reveals that some of the angels are tired of God’s absence and lack of direction and are working together to free Lucifer. This results in a fight between the two, with Castiel almost being killed before fellow angel Anna steps in and kills Uriel.

Due to his involvement with the Winchesters and burgeoning questioning of the rule of Heaven, Castiel is returned to Heaven for reconditioning. However, his allegiance doesn’t last long before he inevitably helps Dean escape the proposed fight between Archangel Michael and Lucifer. Dean is the true vessel for Michael, while Sam is Lucifer’s.

However, Dean refuses to let Michael use his body and is imprisoned until he acquiesces. However, after initially refusing to help, Castiel returns to free Dean. From there, Castiel takes Dean to see the prophet Chuck, but the meeting is interrupted by the impending arrival of Archangel Raphael. Dean is transported to Sam while Castiel holds off Raphael for as long as he can. This results in his death as his vessel is exploded into chunks.

Due to the character’s popularity, he soon returned having been resurrected. He continued to help the Winchesters with their cases and in tracking down Lucifer. Throughout his time on the show, Castiel went from high-ranking soldier to outcast, to human before Lucifer killed him in season twelve.

However, this didn’t last long because Castiel was resurrected the next season by God himself. Not only was he once again given life, but he was also promoted to a member of the Seraphim, the second-highest order of angels. The show endedwith season fifteen with Castiel retaining this rank, as far as we know.

What Happened To Castiel At The End Of Supernatural?

The final few seasons ofSupernaturalsaw several epic battles play out between theWinchesters and companyand the emissaries of Heaven and Hell. The introduction of Jack, the half-human half-angel Nephilim child of Lucifer and a human woman further altered the trajectory of the show and the dynamics within the core characters. Jack rapidly aged into a young adult and frequently battled with his own existence and purpose.

Jack had a close relationship with Castiel, whom he chose as a father figure. Castiel attempted to help Jack understand his own abilities as a Nephalim as well as educate him about the world of humans. In the final seasons, the Archangel Michael returned to wreak havoc upon the world once again and managed to trick Dean into becoming his vessel once again.

Jack played an integral part in the show’s final seasons and in Castiel’s story. Jack lost his Grace (the source of his Nephilim powers) and without his grace, he becomes terminally ill. He succumbs to his illness but is resurrected by Enochian magic thanks to Castiel. Jack uses the power of his soul to defeat Michael, absorbing his grace but losing his soul in the process.

In a very truncated recap, thestory of the final season(SPOILERS) is that God/Chuck (Rob Benedict) has decided to end the world, he smites Jack who is resurrected from the Empty by the Reaper Billie in order to defeat God. Castiel dedicates himself to helping Jack become stronger in order to defeat God, but due to a deal made with the Shadow, the ruler of the Empty, Castiel dies and is dragged into the Empty.

Before he is taken,Castiel professes his love and admiration for Deanand thanks him for helping him and for allowing himself to be happy. The finale also sees Dean die and ascend to Heaven, where surprisingly Bobby Singer tells him that Jack actually resurrected Castiel. In the end, Castiel continued to help people on Earth.
