A study has claimed to reveal the 10 “most hyped” upcoming video game releases, withGrand Theft Auto 6from Rockstar Gamestaking the top spot. Free jigsaw puzzle game website I’m-A-Puzzle has analyzed Google search results to determine the 10 most anticipated upcoming video games set to launch in 2022, 2023, and beyond, with some surprising results.
The list was determined based on the average global monthly searches that the games get.Grand Theft Auto 6took the top spot by a significant margin, with 3,014,790 monthly searches.Hogwarts Legacy, theupcomingHarry Potteraction-RPGfrom Avalanche Software, took a distant second with 1,641,470 searches.God of War Ragnarok, PlayStation’s biggest holiday game, was in third place with 1,298,120 searches.

Rounding out the top five areOverwatch 2with 1,051,850 searches and Bethesda’s open world sci-fi gameStarfield, which had 690,490 searches. The steep drop fromOverwatch 2toStarfieldcan potentially be explained by a couple of different factors. For one,Overwatch 2is a multi-platform release, and for two, it’s set to launch in a matter of weeks. By comparison,Starfieldis only launching for PC and Xbox Series X, and it’s currently without a release date. Considering this, it makes sense that there would be less interest in Bethesda’s game compared to Blizzard’s upcoming hero-shooter at this time.
Most Hyped Upcoming Games
The bottom five are pretty surprising. The 2022 version ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2ranked belowStarfieldwith 627,980 searches, followed byGotham Knights(570,620 searches),Baldur’s Gate 3(553,690 searches), theBreath of the WildsequelTears of the Kingdom(546,890 searches), andDiablo 4(519,040 searches).Modern Warfare 2not cracking the top five is definitely the most shocking revelation from the study, as the game is almost certainly going to be the best-selling new game release of 2022 by the time it’s all said and done.
One thing that could have been working againstCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is that the game had yet to have its big reveal event and multiplayer beta. TheCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2multiplayer beta is live now for PlayStation gamerswith early access, and it’s likely that if the study was conducted today,MW2would rank much higher on the list.
Regardless, the list shows that there are plenty of exciting new video games for fans to look forward to. Some of these games are releasing in the very near future,likeOverwatch 2,Gotham Knights, andModern Warfare 2, while others are coming in 2023, likeHogwarts LegacyandThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Others still are completely without release windows, likeGrand Theft Auto 6, but there should be plenty of new games to play while fans wait.
