It’s been a while since Rudeism has streamed on Twitch, but he makes a big return by playingHadeswith a pomegranate as his controls. As one might imagine, it gets a bit messy.

A while back, a Twitch streamer by the name of Rudeism became famous for first beating aDark Souls 3boss with a dance pad, then later, wiring a dozen bananas to a computer to play as Winston inOverwatch. Since then, the streamer has formed a brand of being able to turn anything into a controller, oftentimes working with a theme. More recently, theFall GuysTwitter dared Rudeism to use only jelly beans as a controllerwhile the game was still in beta. Of course, the “mad lad” happily obliged and wired 11 jelly beans to his computer.

This time, Rudeism decided to tackleHades, a game that took the gaming community by storm last year. As aroguelike where dying is an important part of the game,Hadescertainly isn’t easy, but Rudeism has put over 70 hours into the game, he explains. So he’s far from new to the incredible combat and brutal hits from enemies. But to take onHades,Rudeism chooses to use a pomegranate as a controller, a reference to the Pom of Power in the game.

To start, Rudeism cuts up a pomegranate into 10 pieces to make up the 10different controls needed for combat inHades. He explains that he can’t use only the pomegranate seeds as controls and will need to use the flesh of the fruit as well. However, there’s the problem of how juicy the pomegranate is. “If we connect two pieces of pom, even if they’re separated on the board,” Rudeism says, “the fact that there’s juice between them can mean that they’ll basically cross-conduct,” meaning that touching one slice of pomegranate could trigger another input if the juice is connecting the two pieces.

Rudeism reserves 4 slices of pomegranate on his left for WASD keys and 4 on the right for the various abilities inHades, while the other two are Zagreus' ultimate attack and the interact button. With the pomegranate successfully wired up and a run underway, the main issue is successfully dodging attacks.Zagreus is taking more damagethan Rudeism’s normal runs, so he reserves his resources to purchase and restore health.

Though his hands are stained from the pom juice, Rudeism is able to getpast Megaera in the first stagewithout much issue. “I keep pressing the wrong input,” he says after defeating her and advancing. The full stream is available on Rudeism’s Twitch channel.

Hadesis available now for PC and Switch.
