There are several factions in the Settled Systems, and as players progress farther intoStarfield’s story, they’ll become familiar with all of them. Gamers will come across the United Colonies Vanguard pretty early on in the game, as the faction’s headquarters can be found right in New Atlantis, in the MAST District.

Commander John Tuala will encourage players to join the Vanguard, as the United Colonies volunteer fleet is always on the lookout for new recruits. This guide will show players how they can join the Vanguard inStarfieldand the benefits that they’ll receive from doing so.
How to Join the UC Vanguard
Gamers can talk to Commander John Tuala at any time to attempt tojoin the United Colonies Vanguard. They can find him in the MAST Building, which is located right above the NAT Station in the MAST District.
Once players have asked to be part of the Vanguard, theSupra Et Ultra missionwill start, and they can proceed with the trials required to join. However, gamers must first enter the elevator in the MAST Building to go to the Orientation Hall, where they must interact with one of the registration terminals. Here, they can read the Enlistment Agreement, which they must agree to in order to continue with their enrollment in the Vanguard.
To become fully pledged members, gamers mustearn a satisfactory grade on a simulated combat flight test, and they mustcomplete a probationary mission.
Simulated Combat Flight
The simulated combat flight trial is the first test that gamers must pass in order to become UC Vanguard members. Players can enter theVanguard Pilot Simulator in the Examination Chamberto start their test. However, they can take their time exploring the Orientation Hall, as it’s an interesting museum filled with important historic events in the Settled Systems.
During the simulated combat trial, players will be in control of a Class B Deimos Hoplithe ship.To pass the test, the player must use this ship to take down at least three tiers of simulated opponents.
Although gamers only need to take down six enemy tiers to pass the test, they can try to deal with the following levels. In total, players can eliminate six tiers of enemies. If they get a higher score, the time required to get UC citizenship is reduced, and the application bonus is increased.
Once gamers have successfully completed the trial, they must return to the lobby to talk to Tuala. They will have to swear an oath in front of the MAST Building, and afterward, they will receive their probationary mission.
UC Vanguard Probationary Mission (Grunt Work Walkthrough)
The UC Vanguard probationary mission is called Grunt Work. The objective is tobring materials to the settlers on Tau Ceti II. Gamers must go to the Spaceport in New Atlantis to grab the materials and a welcome goodie bag from Crew Chief Herath, and then they canhead to the Tau Gurmet Production Center on Tau Ceti II in the Tau Ceti system.
The probationary mission won’t be as simple as expected. Once players get to the Tau Gourmet Production Center, they will only findHadrian Sanonalive, and she will tell them that there is a Terrormorph on the site and that it killed all the settlers.
There is something odd about this Terrormorph in particular. These creatures usually appear on colonized planets several decades after the arrival of Settled Systems settlers, but Tau Ceti II is fairly young, and settlers have only been on it for 20 years.Sanon would like a tissue sample in order to gather more information about the creature, and this means that the player will have to kill it one way or the other.
Sanon asks players to go to the Security Outpost in order to get the security system back online and activate the turrets. There, players mustreset the connection, turn on the tracking system at the Tau Gourmet: Livestock Tracking terminal, and change the Tracker Frequency Tuner to 183.5.
Next, gamers will have to kill the Terrormorph, and they can either attempt to power up the facility’s turrets by throwing the breakers onto each building and then lure the alien in their direction, or they can go for it with guns blazing and take it down directly.
After eliminating the threat and handing the sample back to Sanon, gamers can return to Commander Tuala on Jemison.This will end their probationary mission, and they will officially become part of the UC Vanguard. Fans will receive their first official order, which involves going to Mars and continuing this story with the Delivering Devils mission.
Is the UC Vanguard Worth It?
InStarfield, players aren’t limited to a single faction; they can join the Freestar Rangers and be part of the United Colonies Vanguard simultaneously.
Since there is no downside to joining another faction,it’s definitely worth joining the Vanguard, as gamers will get access to more missions, unique perks in United Colonies airspace, exclusive Vanguard goodies, and other privileges. Here is what gamers will receive for joining the Vanguard:
