Summary

OneStardew Valleyplayer has recently discovered the dangers of jumping in front of a train.Stardew Valleyfeatures a wide variety of random events that can happen in the course of an in-game day, but most of them don’t pose a significant threat of damage to the player character.

One of these events involves a train that occasionally runs across the tracks to the far north of the peaceful valley’s map. When a train arrives, players will be notified with a pop-up message saying “A train is passing through Stardew Valley,” and players who can get to the area just north of the spa quickly enough will be able to see it passing by. What’s more, train cars with open tops can drop moderately large amounts of useful items that can help with crafting or discovering rare artifacts for the museum’s display cases.

Since the train arrives with very little advanced warning and continues on its path regardless of where the player is, many players have never seen the front engine. The player character does run faster than the train can move, however, and Reddit user Much_Blueberry_1500 took advantage of their lucky positioning to attempt to run around the front of the train to get to the other side of the tracks. Unfortunately, it didn’t work, and the farmer instead became trapped in the train’s exit tunnel, taking damage until they passed out and had to be revived atHarvey’s Stardew Valley clinicfor a fee of 1,000g.

The Train In Stardew Valley Can Be Dangerous

Other players who have tempted fate shared their cautionary tales against racing the train in the comment section. Some have managed to get hit by the trainwhile riding a horse, and one reported that the horse also showed up, seemingly unharmed, inside Harvey’s clinic in the aftermath. Other players have shared a useful tip about pausing the game when a train is pinning a farmer down, noting that the player will still have to wait for the train to make its exit, but the character will stop taking damage after the game is unpaused. There’s no clear answer as to whether this happens during multiplayer sessions, when hitting the pause button opens the inventory but doesn’t halt time, so those who playStardew Valleywith friends may still want to exercise caution.

While there are dangers involved with racing against trains, completionists may want to seek them out whenever they appear. In addition to the crafting items that can fall from open-top train cars, trains also have the potential to drop multiple pairs of the hard-to-find Leprechaun Shoes. Providing a boost of just two to defense and one to immunity, these are far fromthe best boots inStardew Valley, but they’re still a must-have item for anyone wanting a complete collection of the game’s available footwear.
