TheSpider-Manspinoff starring Bad Bunny asEl Muertois reportedly eyeing former WWE star, Sasha Banks. The film, which has recently been delayed due to the strike action undertaken by the Writers Guild of America, hasn’t officially started the casting process yet.

Based on one of the more obscureSpider-Mancharacters, Sony’s joint announcement with singer and leading man Bad Bunny that there were plans for anEl Muertofilm had many fans askingwho the titular character was. El Muerto, a Mexican wrestler who inherited a powerful mask from his father that grants him super strength and resilience, crossed paths with Spider-Man when he was tasked with defeating and unmasking a masked warrior as part of a ritual with his life on the line. Fans seemed excited at the prospect, with Bad Bunny being seen as a good choice for a lead role.

While there is still a long way to go with the project, another solid casting choice seems to be in the works at Sony. With work on the project likely starting afterJonas Cuaron was tapped to directEl Muertolast year, reports suggest that the project is now looking to add former WWE star and recently debuted actress Mercedes Varnado, a.k.a. Sasha Banks, to the project in an undisclosed role. The news came from a source in contact withThe Hollywood Reporterduring its coverage of the film’s removal from Sony’s release slate, where it was previously listed for a January 2024 premiere.

Varnado most recently showed her acting chops by starring inThe Mandalorianas Koska Reeves, a loyal companion character to Bo-Katan Kryze, starting in the show’s second season. Her performance has been well-received by fans and critics alike and is likely a driving force behind interest in her joining theEl Muertocast in what will likely be a prominent role. Her on-screen chemistry with Bad Bunny could prove interesting, as they two have never worked together despite Bad Bunny’s extensive involvement with the WWE, which even saw the singing sensation feature as a pre-order bonus onthe latest installment of the WWE 2K franchise.

The Sasha Banks persona is one of the most successful in women’s wrestling, with many fans making a case for Saha Banks to be the cover star of WWE 2K22 before the game’s release. Adding in her role inThe Mandalorianand Varnado will be a popular addition to the Sony project, as the overlap between professional wrestling,Star Wars, and Marvel Comics fanbases is sizeable. In addition, her strong presence and appealing demeanor will surely be a draw for even uninvolved viewers.

While nothing is confirmed yet, Varnado is likely to leap at the opportunity to be part of another promising project. If all goes well, fans can look forward to her confirmation of the role in a similar style toBad Bunny’s reaction to joining the Spider-Man spinoff.
