Summary

FormerMortal Kombatguest character Spawn is making his long-awaited return to the franchise, albeit in theMortal Kombat Mobilespin-off rather thanMortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm’sMortal Kombatgames have featured special guest appearances from comics, movies, and other video games, ranging fromGod of War’s Kratos being a PlayStation-exclusive DLC character in 2011’sMortal Kombat 9to Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander enforcing their twisted brands of justice inMortal Kombat 1.

Todd McFarlane’s legendary anti-hero Spawn already had his own rich history in video games by the time he was included as a guest DLC combatant inMortal Kombat 11, having previously appeared in theXbox version ofSoulcalibur 2. InMortal Kombat 11,however, Spawn retained his brutal nature as an undead solider armed with the power of the underworld, with Keith David reprising his role from the HBOSpawnanimated series from the 1990s. Spawn would later turn up as a playable skin inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, butMKfans have been hoping to see him return to their favorite fighting franchise.

Mortal Kombat Mobile’s newest summer update adds “Tormented Soul Spawn” as a Diamond Tier, Nomad Class character armed with the power of Necroplasm. Just like his appearance inMortal Kombat 11,Spawn is voiced by Keith David, and he has plenty of demonic attacks to inflict unholy punishment on his enemies. For example, his Hellraiser Passive move can generate Necroplasm energy over time, which can be used to either heal Spawn and his teammates or injure his foes with devastating counterattacks.
