Blizzard releasedOverwatch 2on October 4. Developers initially intended for it to coexist as a separate title alongside the original 2016 game. However, Blizzard later decided thatOverwatch 2would serve as its free-to-play replacement. As a result, the studio shut downOverwatch’s servers on October 3, with all players having their cosmetics and currency transferred over toOverwatch 2when it launched the following day. For 2022, Blizzard hoped to incentivize higher viewership by offeringOverwatch 2players a variety of perks for tuning in. These included Home and Away skins forvariousOverwatch 2Heroes, exclusive Sprays, and other in-game collectibles. Viewers were also supposed to receive a payout of Overwatch League Tokens, which they could exchange for other exclusive cosmetics. EligibleOverwatch 2players were supposed to receive their rewards on November 15. However, many players report that they still haven’t gotten them, and Blizzard’s Customer Support has done nothing to help.
In a now-deleted Reddit post first noticed by Kotaku, a user called Hohoho-you shared a screenshot of the message he received from Customer Support. According to the Game Master’s reply,Overwatch 2players have already received any rewards they were eligible for. Additionally, Blizzard’s Customer Support has no way of verifying eligibility and can therefore offer no assistance to players with this problem.
Hohoho-you is not the only player who didn’t receive theOverwatch League Tokens and rewardsthey claim to have earned. Viewers were supposed to receive tokens for every three hours of the Overwatch League they watched. However, the thread’s top comment notes they stopped acquiring rewards after a certain point. Others claimed that they got all the Tokens but not all their skins. In some cases, they reported missing out on skins that they unlocked before the cosmetics that they did receive. Others experienced a range of similar issues.
A reporter from Kotaku reached out to Blizzard prior to publishing their write-up on the issue but did not receive an immediate response. However,Overwatch 2players don’t seem to expect they will ever get the rewards they are entitled to. The Reddit thread contained multiple criticisms ofBlizzard’s Customer Support, alleging that the company has demonstrated a pattern of ignoring this kind of problem and even blaming players.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
