FXhas announced that the crime dramaSnowfallhas been renewed for a sixth and final season.
Co-created by the late John Singleton,Snowfallrevolves around the 1980s crack epidemic in Los Angeles. Singleton, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 51, was the first African American director to benominated for an Oscarfor his 1991 filmBoyz n the Hood.TheSnowfallseries focuses on an ensemble cast of characters, including young drug kingpin Franklin Saint, played by Damien Idris.

“I couldn’t imagine telling this story anywhere but at FX. I’m incredibly proud of the history we have all made. Especially the impactSnowfallhas had on the culture. Very rarely does a TV show get to the sixth season mark and saying goodbye to ‘Franklin Saint’ will be heartbreaking. But the family and relationships I’ve made on this journey will last a lifetime. I know John Singleton is looking down smiling proud,” Idris said in a statement. Co-creator Dave Andron also commented on the news, saying, “To tell a story worth telling, with creative partners you respect and admire, at a network that supports you throughout and allows you to end on your terms. That’s the dream. I am so grateful toeveryone at FX from John Landgrafon down and to the entireSnowfallfamily for helping us get there. If only John Singleton could be with us for the end.”

Today, as the fifth season ofSnowfallreaches new heights of acclaim and viewership, there is no question that this series has become anFX classic drama,” FX’s President of Original Programming, Nick Grad, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to order a sixth season that will enable Dave Andron, Walter Mosley, and the rest of the producers to bringSnowfallto a climactic finale showcasing the brilliance of everyone involved, from the stellar cast led by Damson Idris, to the writers, directors, artists, and crew.”
WhileSnowfallhas received mixed reviews from critics, it’s developed a strong following and maintained a large viewership, with the currently-airing 5th season being cited as the series' most-watched season to date. Fans can watch new episodes ofseason 5, which is currently airing Wednesdays on FX, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
Snowfallseason 6 is expected to premiere sometime in 2023.
