The modding scene has been one of the key elements ofSkyrim’s enduring popularity since its initial release. Bethesda has remained committed to bringing the game to each brand-new platform, while the modding community has done its part by bringing massive amounts of content toSkyrim. Right now, players are able to turnSkyriminto any game they want. Footage of the mod was posted to YouTube, with the mod itself available on Nexus Mods from user Dexterfly. The clip shows the mod in action, with every line inSkyrimreplaced with the voice ofAssassin’s Creed’s Evie Frye as an add-on to the Dragonborn Voiceover mod. According to the mod author, it has full lip sync support, with existing support for the Serana Dialogue add-on mod. In the works is a patch for Interesting NPCs, one of the most popularSkyrimmods of all time.

The Dragonborn Voiceover mod represents perhaps the largest leap forSkyrimmodding ever. Bethesda has trialed a voiced protagonist withFallout 4, and it wasn’t a huge hit with fans. But at this point,Skyrimis a well-traveled path for most gamers, who want something to freshen up the experience. A voiced protagonist is ideal for this. Modders have even been busy implementing other iconic video game characters intoSkyrim. Another modder brought aMaster Chief voice pack intoSkyrim, bringing Halo’s protagonist into Bethesda’s iconic RPG.

While AI voice acting will likely become a crucial part of modding in the coming years, it’s unlikely it’ll be used during the development ofTheElder Scrolls 6. There are just far too many ethical and legal questions surrounding the technology at the moment, which could take years to clear up. As well as this, it may not be good enough yet for professional use at Bethesda’s level of quality. Despite this, there’s no denying the swift progress the technology has made recently, withAI voice acting even being used in the recentHigh on Life. Hopefully, the industry is able to define clear guidelines for AI voice technology. If done as ethically as possible, it opens up a new world of opportunity for everyone.
