A new update to the recently released Switch version ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Editionlooks to fix issues with the game’s performance. The open-world RPG from Bethesda has become one of the most iconic games in the modern era with a plethora of re-releases across multiple platforms. The game recently received yet another version for the RPG’s tenth anniversary last year featuring plenty of in-game content, along with introducing fishing to the game. Now, an update for the Switch version is looking to addressframe rate problems with the port.
An update rolled out forSkyrim Anniversary Editionhas reportedly addressed many of the issues players have seen with frame rate from the port. Several players have already reported that the patch seems to have fixed the game’s performance issues, particularly with frame rate dips in certain areas. OneSkyrimplayer on Switch reported that Riften is now holding 30 fps gameplay within the city, as opposed to the “slideshow” from before the update. Crashes with the game’s Switch version have also reportedly been significantly reduced, thanks to the patch.

The update comes after Bethesda had reportedly been aware of the issues plaguingSkyrim: Anniversary Edition’s Switch port. Bethesda’s support team was reportedly looking into theperformance problems withSkyrim: Anniversary Editionearly on in the month. The issues surrounding the game were most severe with some of the new content added toAnniversary Edition, particularly Creation Club and Survival Mode as some of the biggest offenders.
Skyrim’s anniversary release is the most recent release of an RPG that has seen numerous re-releases since its original 2011 debut.Skyrimhas been released on virtually every new console since the original’s launch withSpecial Editionlaunching on eighth generation consoles.Anniversary Editionbrought the RPG to PS5 and Xbox Series consoles late last year with the Switch version coming last month.Skyrimwas even brought to Amazon’s Alexa devices with the release ofSkyrim: Very Special Editionas a comedic port of the game in 2018.
While fans on virtually every platform have been able to experience one ofSkyrim’s many re-releases, many are waiting to see what the franchise will do in the future. Despite revealingThe Elder Scrolls 6in 2018, Bethesda has shown little from the upcoming sequel outside of brief teasers. The game’s official setting has yet to be confirmed by the developers, with leaks suggestingthe Redguard homeland of Hammerfellas the locale forThe Elder Scrolls 6.
