Resident Evil Village’sDLC will bring 20 unlockables to the game’s Mercenaries mode, as well as shrinking Lady Dimitrescu in order to make her playable. Before the reveal ofResident Evil Village’sDLC, a lot of fans were wondering what direction Capcom would take the franchise next. Announced in June,Resident Evil Village’sShadows of Rose DLCtakes fans on a journey set 16 years after the story of Ethan Winters, picking up with his daughter Rose.
So far, plenty of details have been revealed about the Shadows of Rose DLC, including story points and how difficult it was to implement some of the game’s features. Thedirector ofResident Evil Villagehas stated that Shadows of Rosewill be the climax of the Winters' storyline in the franchise, giving plenty of space for a new protagonist to take the reins inResident Evil 9. However, Shadows of Rose goes beyond just giving players a new story experience, as it also brings a whole host of new gameplay mechanics and features, including a third-person mode.

Speaking with Polygon, Game Director Kento Kinoshita revealed a lot of new details on the Mercenaries Additional Orders content, including the fact that Lady Dimitrescu had to be shrunk down from 9'6" to just under 9 feet in order to be playable within the game’s technical parameters. The giant mutant is one of three characters that will be available with Mercanaries Additional Orders, which also lets players take on the roles of Chris Redfield and Heisenberg. Speaking about the decision to reduce the size ofResident Evil Village’sLady Dimitrescu, Kinoshita stated that she was too tall as she was, so the team had to adjust her height to stop players “bumping into the ceiling.”
In the interview, Kinoshita shared that another addition being brought toResident Evil Villagewith the Shadows of Rose DLC are “about” 20 new unlockables for players in the game’s Mercenaries mode. These include some in-game weapons such as the LZ Answerer, which can prove tricky to obtain in the main story. Dimitrescu and the other characters in the DLC will be able to unlock new stages and abilities when the Winters' Expansion drops, and the “difficulty and frequency” of these has been modified to make sure players enjoy the whole experience.
While the Mercenaries mode has been available since 2021, previously gamers had only been able to beat the challenges as Ethan Winters. When the Winters' Expansion and Shadows of Rose releases, players will get all the new content coming with Mercenaries Additional Orders, letting them depart from Ethan if they please. However, themain story ofResident Evil Villagemust be completed before Mercenaries modecan be accessed, meaning new players will have a ways to go before they can play as their favorite villains.
Resident Evil Villageis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and theShadows of RoseDLC launches on June 08, 2025.
