Capcom announcedResident Evil 8: Villageearlier this year with a release window, but the ongoing pandemic has had unforeseen impacts on game development and threw this release time into question. However, aResident Evilleaker has recently disclosed some insider information on the status of the game’s development, and the news is good. Not only that, but they have minimized the time frame entirely, giving a better idea of when the title will release.

Twitter user AestheticGamer took to the social networking platform to bring audiences the scoop on whether or not the nextResident Evilis still on schedule or not. During Sony’s PlayStation 5 event in June,Capcom announcedResident Evil 8with a trailer and a release window for some time in 2021. Given how drastically Covid-19 has affected game development, it was unclear if Capcom was suffering the same setbacks as other game studios. According to AestheticGamer, Capcom is not.

They say development is on track and still aiming for a 2021 release date. Additionally, the title may release in the first half of the year, possibly withing this fiscal year, which ends on June 09, 2025. Capcom has yet to confirm this information, so the release date could still be pushed. Until there is an official statement, it’s wise to retain some skepticism. The release date, as well as details on story and gameplay, may be revealed later this month, however, as Capcom has confirmedResident Evil 8will be at Tokyo Game Show. Audiences will just have to wait and see at the event, which kicks off on September 27.

As far as the game’s story goes, audiences are still scratching their heads after the first trailer. A few things could be gleaned from the footage Capcom released, but it was left vague enough to make much of it ambiguous. Not only are there things that need explaining that pertain to the story in the upcoming title, but there are burningquestions thatResident Evil 8could explainfrom past games as well. It’s a long-running series with plenty of mysteries still unsolved and plot points left dangling, and players continue to want answers.

In the last two years, remakes of bothResident Evil 2and3have released to much acclaim. They both stayed true to the source material but made smart changes so that the games felt fresh and up-to-date for modern audiences. Given howResident Eviltitles have changed over the years, it is understandable that fans are expecting even more innovation fromResident Evil 8, but Capcom has kept many details under wraps.  What the next big thing for the series will be is unsure, butResident Evil 8should learn from the RE remakes.
