One of the most well-known and infamous Easter eggs from the originalResident Evil 4returns in the recent remake, but with a clever and unexpected twist. The high-profile remake of the survival horror classic has been a critical and commercial success, with Capcom recently announcing that theResident Evil 4remake is now the second fastest-selling game in franchise history.
First released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005,Resident Evil 4marked a shift in the franchise away from strict survival horror into more action-oriented gameplay. Although its two follow-ups were criticized for leaning too heavily into action at the expense of the series’ horror roots,Resident Evil 4was praised by many players for finding a near-perfect balance between satisfying combat and old-fashioned scares. While the recent remake of the survival horror hit gave the game a graphical overhaul for modern hardware and updated some elements of the gameplay, it thankfully left many of the game’s Easter eggs and some ofResident Evil 4’s cheesy dialogueintact.

A new video posted to the r/residentevil subreddit by user DisketteDetective shows how one of the most infamouseaster eggs inResident Evil 4managed to make the cut for the remake while receiving an update that hilariously calls out the player. In the original release ofResident Evil 4players who attempted to surreptitiously sneak a peek up companion Ashley Graham’s skirt would be called out by the first daughter as she exclaimed to Leon, “You pervert!” The clip shows how the Easter egg has been modified, with the player now being the target of Ashley’s ire. Instead of calling out Leon, Ashley now glares directly at the camera, making it clear to the player that she knows what they were trying to do.
Many Redditors responding to the clip appreciated how Capcom had updated the classicResident Evil 4Easter egg for the remake, though some users wished Ashley had gone a bit further with her reaction. One response highlighted howNeir AutomataandReplicanteach scolded players for attempting to look up characters’ skirts, while another comment laughingly pointed out that Norman Reedus’ Sam Bridges fromDeath Strandingwould simply attack the camera if players stared at his crotch too long. One commenter liked that the updated Easter egg had Ashley breaking the fourth wall and calling out the player, rather than Leon, as the actual pervert.
With Ashley clearly unafraid to stare players down for attempting to violate her privacy, maybeResident Evil 4fans will show a bit more respect for her modesty when fiddling with the camera. Luckily,Resident Evil 4also has some decidedly morewholesome moments with Leon and Ashleyinterspersed throughout its terrifying story.
TheResident Evil 4remake is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
