SinceResident Evil 2 Remakecame out, the bar for not only official remakes but also new entries in the long-running horror series has been quite high. As a result, when the reimagining ofResident Evil 3released a year later, many people felt that it didn’t surpass its predecessor. However, it was stillone of the best horror games of 2020, up there withPhasmophobiaandVisage, and recently, a video has emerged which shows a side by side comparison between the PS4 version ofRE3and the new upgraded PS5 port.
YouTuber Cycu1 has given the fan base a visual representation of how the previous generation build ofResident Evil 3compares to current gen. It begins with the game’s opening cut scene, with side-by-side playthroughs to demonstrate the differences. Towards the end of the video, there are also some stills that switch between PS4 and PS5, to give a more in-depth idea of the graphical upgrades that the new version has been given.

To many, the differences may appear negligible, but there are those more “graphical purists” out there who will be interested to see the new ray tracing effects and whether or not they improve the overall visuals. Though some may not see the difference straight away, ray tracing has become a key component in modern game development. Studios are always working on new ways to make games more visually appealing, and this is just one of those methods, with resolution upscaling being another way to improve the general graphics of a game.
Resident Evil 2,3, and7had current gen updates recently, which come with the aforementioned RT effects for more realistic lighting. The PS5 port also comes with 3D audio and DualSense support. However, some fans have been concerned about the upgrades, as they appear to have caused issues with some mods, and the PC version now has increased hardware requirements, which could be a problem for those with lower-end systems. In general, Cycu1’s video is a way to see what Capcom has done to the game since porting it to modern consoles.
As forRE3itself, it may not be thescariestResident Evilentry, but it’s still considered a solid remake of one of the original classics. It seems that its main downfall was the shift into a more action-orientated game, and many were not happy with the short campaign length. But in general, the game was still well received, and no doubt many will be pleased about the visual tweaks it’s been given for PS5.
Resident Evil 3 Remakeis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
