The latest update is out forRed Dead Online, bringing thenew Naturalist experienceand a number of new NPCs to interact with as well as new cosmetics to unlock. However, some of those new characters, and one quest giver in particular, have an interesting way of interacting with the player depending on how they choose to spend their time.
Uploaded by Reddit user u/Evanovesky, a video shows exactly what happens when players come across Harriet Davenport inRed Dead Onlineafter going out for a quick hunt. This interaction has caused some issues among players, who have becomedisappointed in Harriet’s response to hunting, along with the way it contradicts with present roles like the trader.

As seen in the video, when a player kills an animal and takes its pelt with it to Harriet, she will spray the player in the face, knocking them unconscious and ditching them in the woods. This was likely initially intended to be a consequence of players choosing to side with the competing NPC, Gus Macmillan, who actively hunts animals and will reward players with new cosmetics for pelts. So players looking to unlock all ofRed Dead Online’s rewardswill be actively punished by being denied progress with Harriet’s questline.
To add insult to injury, this doesn’t happen just once, but every single time that players hunt and return to Harriet, whether the animal’s pelt is on their horse or not. For these reasons most players have quickly gravitated towards Gus when choosing which of the new questlines available inRed Dead Online’s new updatethey want to go through. So, while Harriet’s reaction to players hunting before visiting her is a funny addition that fits her character, it has led to a few different issues for players attempting to uncover everything the long awaited update has to offer.
While players are excited to see whatRed Dead Online’s Naturalist updatebrings to the game after going through a long dry spell with a severe lack of updates for the last few months, Harriet as a character has not resonated well. Both of the new characters are somewhat interesting on their own, although some fans would argue that neither are impressive enough to warrant the long wait for the update. However, the real problem comes with a risk that Rockstar took by making players choose which character they’ll align with, a risk that unfortunately hasn’t really paid off.
Red Dead Onlineis available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
