The leadup to the launch of next-gen hardware is always an exciting time. As rumors and speculation begin to swirl, fans can only imagine what stellar new games await them on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. While players have gotten theirfirst peek at the PlayStation 5 gameGodfall, the exact specs of what the consoles offer under the hood have remained a mystery. However, that information appears to have leaked for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

According to a new report, the PS5 will feature GDDR6 memory and a 9.2 Teraflop GPU. The PS5’s GPU also allegedly features 36 custom Navi compute units at 2000MHz and will be able to switch between three separate modes for backwards compatibility with the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Included in these modes will be “gen 2”, which the PS5 will normally run on, “gen 1”, and “gen 0”, which seemingly emulate the PS4’s metrics to enable said backward compatibility.Sony has shown off what the PS5 is capable of in the past, demonstrating how a game likeSpider-Manwouldn’t have load timeson the new hardware, and these specs certainly make it seem like the PlayStation 5 could consistently deliver that kind of experience.

The Xbox Series X, on the other hand, is a bit more of a mystery. There’s a GPU referred to as “Arden” in the obtained data, but little else. However, the report does claim that the Series X GPU may be shooting for a target of 12 teraflops and that it is “frankly ginormous”. If that’s true, it may drive up the cost of the Series X considerably, raising questions yet again overhow much the Xbox Series X will cost.

All this information points towards the PS5 being the more reasonably priced device. Of course, that would give the Xbox Series X a bigger advantage in the power department. ThePS5 is Sony’s easiest console to work with yet, though, so that extra power may not matter. As of right now, this information is still a rumor, so its best to take it with a grain of salt until Sony and Microsoft reveal more solid information.

There’s still about a year of waiting before players can get their hands on the consoles. Both theXbox Series X and PS5 have release windows of Holiday 2020, so there’s sure to be yet another console war kicking off sometime around next year’s E3 press conferences. Only time will tell which gaming giant actually takes home the gold.
