Ever since the announcement of thePokemonfranchise’s new game, fans all around the world have been very excited toencounter the new PokemonthroughoutScarlet & Violet. Generation 9 has met players with exciting new Pokemon in the Paldea region, and since the previous trailers haven’t showcased too many new Pokemon to appear in the game, players will be astounded to witness so many great creatures for themselves.

Whether it be for competitive ambitions, or simply just to have a brand-new buddy to tag along on their journey to becoming aPokemonmaster in Paldea, there are great candidates in Generation 9. Some new Pokemon are considerably better than others though, especially when considering the base stats for those Pokemon.

Paradox Pokemon are excluded as their base stat sums are the same (570). Iron Valiant and Roaring Moon’s base stats are 590.

10Armarogue/Ceruledge

The brand-new Armarogue and Ceruledge are great Pokemon that were first introduced to fans in trailers beforeScarlet & Violet’srelease. Depending on which version the player has, they may get either of the two.Scarlet’s exclusive is Armarogue, andViolet’s is Ceruledge.

Both are different in typing, but base stats add up the same. These two Pokemon evolve fromCharcadetusing armor obtained from an NPC in Zapapico, which varies depending on the version. Armarogue and Ceruledge are both great physical attackers, and have good speed stats.

9The Three Starters

The three starter Pokemon are Pokemon that may remain in the player’s party for the entirety of the game, as is the role of the very first Pokemon they obtain. There are three choices inScarlet & Violet: Sprigatito, the Grass-type;Fuecoco, the Fire-type; and Quaxly, the Water-type.

Each Pokemon’s evolution is incredibly reliable and viable within the game, whether it be for taking on Paldea and its challenges, or in a competitive sense. The three each have a secondary typing when fully evolved, fully revealing their great potential. All three Pokemon’s base stats add up to the same total, but are distrubuted differently.

8Dondozo

Dondozo is a large, blue catfish-like Pokemon that players may first encounter as the False Dragon Titan in the north-western side of Paldea. Dondozo is apure Water-type Pokemonand doesn’t have any evolutions. This fish Pokemon is an amazing choice for competitive battling, especially when in need of a pivot or tank Pokemon.

Dondozo’s base stats add up to 530, with health being an incredible 150. In return, Dondozo is very slow, but its HP, Attack, and physical Defense really make up for it. In double-battles, this Pokemon can interact with Tatsugiri to boost its Order Up attack.

7Annihilape

Annihilape is the brand-new stage-3 evolution in Primape’s evolution line. In order to evolve Primeape into an Annihilape, the player must have Primeape learn Rage Fist at level 35. After that, Primeape must use that attack 20 times in battle, and then the Pokemon will evolve into theFighting/Ghost-type Annihilape.

Annihilape’s base stats add up to an initial 535, with the attack stat being its highest at 115. Simply put, this rage-filled Pokemon is best for quick and powerful physical attacks on an opponent’s Pokemon.

6Kingambit

Mankey wasn’t the only Pokemon to obtain an interesting new third-stage evolution, as Pawniard gained a new one as well. This Pokemon’s design is arguably one of the coolest. Players can evolve their Bisharp into a Kingambit by defeating three Bisharp leading a pack of Pawniard.

Kingambit is a Dark/Steel-typePokemon with some incredible advantages and stats. Its base stats add up to 550, with its Attack being an initial 135. This Pokemon is slow, but will hit like a semi-truck in battle. Not to mention, its Steel typing gives it many resistances.

5Gholdengo

At first, Gimmighoul may seem but a nice little Pokemon for players to find everywhere throughout theirjourney in beautiful Paldea. However, this Pokemon actually has an evolution that many may never know about. To evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, the player mustlevel up the Gimmighoul while having 999 Gimmighoul coinsin their bag.

Gholdengo is a Steel/Ghost-typePokemon, and its base stats add up to 550, with Special Attack being its highest at 133. This Pokemon has 9 resistances, three immunities, a signature move, and a unique ability that gives it full immunity to other Pokemon’s status moves.

4Treasures Of Ruin Pokemon

The Treasures of Ruin Pokemonare four different legendary Pokemon that players can capture by taking out mysterious stakes in different areas of Paldea. Each of these legendary Pokemon have a different typing, but all of their base stats add up to thesame sum (580), with each one having differently distributed stat totals.

These Pokemon are incredibly strong. Each one has its own way of pursuing battle, whether it be by being more defensive and attacking second, or by being faster than the opponent and hitting them with a special attack.

3Baxcalibur

Baxcalibur is a new pseudo-legendary Pokemon with some incredible stats, a great typing, and wonderful design. Baxcalibur is the final evolution of Frigibax, and is anIce/Dragon-type Pokemon. Baxcalibur’s initial stats add up to an insane 600, with Attack being its highest at an outrageous 145.

This Pokemon also has amazing health for a physical attacker, sitting at an initial 115. Its Defense stat is also nothing for players to scoff at. This Pokemon, with such incredible offensive stats, may be one of the best pseudo-legendary Pokemon in the games.

2Palafin

Many players finding themselves curious about the best Pokemon inScarlet & Violetmay be surprised to see Palafin sitting near the top. Thissmall dolphin-like Pokemonisn’t too extreme at first, but with a Superman-inspired ability, this Pokemon is ridiculously competitive.

Palafin’s ability, Zero to Hero, allows thisWater-type Pokemonto switch into its Hero Form when swapped in and out. Palafin’s Hero Form’s base stats sit at a legendary-worthy 650 in total. The almighty Hero Form Palafin is also ranked number one in attack, as its Attack stat is forceful 160.

1Koraidon/Miraidon

At last, the main stars of the game and cover-art Pokemon forScarlet & Violetare sitting at the top of the list of best Pokemon in the game. These two legendary Pokemon are first obtained in the beginning of the game, but are not usable in battle until later on.

Both legendary Pokemonhave different typings and different stats, but their overall base stats add up to a ferocious 670. Both have great health, and great offensive stats in respect to their style of battle. Koraidon is a physical attacker, while Miraidon is a special attacker.
