The next majorPokemongames are less than four months away. It feels likePokemon ScarletandVioletare sneaking up on everyone, as these games only have two trailers out right now, with a third coming on August 3. For major titles releasing in just a few months, that isn’t much.Pokemonhas a tendency to ramp up its marketing before mainline games come out, but it also staggers small news drops throughout the period prior to that.Pokemon ScarletandVioletseems to be taking a different approach, although the hype for them doesn’t seem to have been affected.

Not knowing much about these games have given them an air of mystery.Pokemon ScarletandVioletwill be thefirst open-worldPokemongamesafter partial attempts in the last couple of Game Freak titles likePokemon Legends: Arceus. Additionally, these new titles are experimenting with things like co-op multiplayer and non-linear progression in that open-world environment. It’s an exciting time forPokemon, but among the many questions that fans have, there’s been one particularly notable missing detail. Despite sporting two major trailers and a fast-approaching release date,Pokemon ScarletandVioletstill haven’t revealed the name of their region.

Why Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Region Name is Important

MainlinePokemontitles are set in regions like Kanto, Hoenn, and Galar, and referencing aPokemongeneration with the name of its region is usually acceptable. Even spin-off games often come with new regions of their own, such asPokemon Colosseum’s Orre region andPokken Tournament’s Ferrum. It’s a small detail, but it’s one that has become part of thePokemonseries' tradition.

After so many years of regions being a given part ofPokemontitles, it’s bizarre thatPokemon ScarletandViolethave been so tight-lipped about theirs. Regional names are usually revealed alongside thefirst or second trailer for aPokemongame, generally whichever one begins to show significant information that contributes to the games’ identity like Legendaries.Pokemon ScarletandVioletalready had one of these trailers, and the reason why the upcoming Generation 9 region name hasn’t been revealed yet isn’t clear.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Seem to be Holding a Lot Back

Keeping an obvious marketing point from fans is an odd move, and it’s expected that the next trailer releasing tomorrow will reveal something. There is a lot that thethirdPokemon ScarletandViolettrailercould show, and now feels like the right time to do it. The whole summer has been plagued by rumors and leaks, likely spread further due to frustration with a lack of marketing for these new games coming up to launch. Fans don’t even know 10 of the new Pokemon being introduced, which is a noticeable deficit of information compared to prior entries, and it would be best for everyone if Game Freak cleared the air.

It’s not unreasonable to call a region name the bare minimum information that this third trailer needs to reveal. Plenty of new Pokemon, mechanics, and other structural information aboutPokemon ScarletandVioletshould come along with it. There will probably be additional information found on thePokemonwebsite that could not be properly communicated through the trailer, but no matter what else is in thePokemonPresents video on August 3,Pokemon ScarletandVioletshould have all the content necessary to dominate the lion’s share.

Pokemon ScarletandVioletwill be released on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
