It looks as if 2020 will be a good year forPokemon-inspired titles. The recently released trailer forCoromon, aPokemon-indie gamethat looks to hearken back toPokemon’s middle generations, showed off an impressive first look at the game’s world and creatures. Now, anotherPokemon-like title has been confirmed for a release on the Nintendo Switch in 2020:Nexomon: Extinction.

Nexomon: Extinctionis actually the second title in theNexomonseries. For those who may be unaware,Nexomonis aPokemon-like monster catching game that was originally released in 2017 exclusively for iOS. Eventually, the first title made its way to Steam to mostly positive reception. Now, the second title in the series has finally been confirmed to make its way to home consoles, starting with the Nintendo Switch.

The very clearlyPokemon-inspired title with make its way to Switch sometime later this year, but an official date has yet to be revealed. WhileNexomonis not the first title toriff off of the classicPokemongames, it was a huge success on both iOS and Steam. However, Vewo Interactive has hinted that ports to other home consoles such as the Xbox One, PS4, and possibly even next generation ports may be on the way. The news was made official on theNexomonTwitter account on January 10. The team had been silent for a few weeks in preparation for the announcement.

The official announcement tweet reads: “Our goal is to bringNexomonto as many people as possible and this is a huge step forward in the right direction. In order to deliver the best game possible to you and meet all technical, legal and quality requirements for the Switch we will need more time.” So, while the game looks like it won’t release on Switch at the same time as other platforms, it will eventually make its way there – hopefully within the year.

While the title may or may not drum up any serious competition with the hugely successfulPokemon SwordandShieldtitles that released late last year,Nexomon: Extinctionmay end up releasing sometime close toSwordandShield’s new expansion packs. The two expansion packs, which can be bought for both versions for $29.99 on the eShop, are set to release sometime in June and November of this year.

WhileSwordandShieldwere massive commercial successes, fans still hadproblems with aspects of the new games. For one, there was the massive controversy surrounding the national dex not being included, along with some complaints about the game’s graphics and animation quality. WithNexomon: Extinctionmaking its way to the system sometime this year, maybePokemonfans will find something in it to enjoy.
