With only two weeks remaining until the release ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, aPokemonfan took to social media to show off a homemade Porygon they created. The Porygon itself contained a secret compartment within the chassis, which thePokemonfan artist showed off.
Known as the Virtual Pokemon, Porygon was among the first generation of Pokemon that came with the release ofPokemon Red and Blue.In the original games, Porygon could be purchased in the Celadon City Game Corner for the excessive price of 9999 Game Coins. In later games, Porygon received two evolutions named Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, with each having unique methods of evolution depending on the games they appear in. For example, the evolution method for the Porygon line inPokemon Legends: Arceuswas made simpler than in previous entries. Formerly, the Upgrade and Dubious Disc items were previously considered held items that required trading while holding the respective items to obtain Porygon2 and Porygon-Z. Since Pokemon cannot be traded to other players, nor can they hold items inPokemon Legends: Arceus, the Upgrade and Dubious Disc are instead used in the same vein as evolution stones. Porygon itself is sometimes found within space-time distortions in the Crimson Mirelands of the Hisui region.

A Redditor named BigRig_Pikachu posted their handiwork in a 27-second video, and it received over 1,400 upvotes in a day. While other crafters have made their ownPorygon sculptures using materials such as clay, BigRig_Pikachu said in the comments that their Porygon was made with a 3D printer. Nicknamed Porgles, the 3D-printed Pokemon measured one foot tall, and housed a secret within its body. In the video posted by BigRig_Pikachu, the chest piece of Porygon was pulled out from the body and was used as a housing compartment for some of the poster’sPokemongames from the Nintendo DS and 3DS era. Ranging fromPokemon X and YtoPokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, BigRig_Pikachu’s Porygon held sixPokemongames in their cases, with room to spare for additional games.
In the past,Porygon was mired in controversy within thePokemonanime, as episode 38 of the first season, which translated to “Electric Soldier Porygon” at the time, was taken off the air due to flashing lights that induced headaches, dizziness, and even seizures. Over 600 Japanese viewers had to be treated for these symptoms by ambulance, and over 100 of them were hospitalized. As a result, the episode never aired outside of Japan in its original format. The episode returned several years later, with heavy edits made to eliminate the seizure-causing scenes.
However, no seizures were thankfully had with Porgles, as it had no built-in lighting or anything similar featured in the video. Whether Porygon and its evolutionswill appear inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, or again in the future, remains to be seen.
