Summary

A talentedPokemonfan has recently designed new regional variants for Larvitar, Pupitar, and Tyranitar, turning the creatures into Rock/Steel-type monsters. Regional variants are very popular inPokemonfan art, as reimagining creatures with different types often leads to interesting ideas that can be shared with the community.

Larvitar and its evolutions debuted inthe second generation ofPokemongames. However, capturing a Larvitar inPokemon Gold and Silverwas no easy task, as the critter only appeared in Mt. Silver, and had a fairly low spawn rate. After reaching Level 30, Larvitar can evolve to Pupitar, and then the powerful Tyranitar by Level 55, which has powerful abilities such as Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Now, aPokemonfan called SayuriKoopa has shared a new regional variant for Larvitar, Pupitar, and Tyranitar on r/fakemon. The fan artist created new crystal-inspired versions of the three creatures, turning them into Rock/Steel-type monsters. While all three Pokemon still kept their overall shape in the fan art, their skin changed to grey and white colors, and SayuriKoopa drew blue crystal shards coming out of their bodies. The crystals were even more prominent in the variant version of Tyranitar, which had a back filled with huge crystal pieces. Most regional variants tend to be inspired by a specific region of thePokemonuniverse, but according to SayuriKoopa, the main inspiration for this artwork was SpaceGodzilla.SpaceGodzilla is a classicGodzillavillain, and it has an uncanny resemblance to this version of Tyranitar.

Larvitar, Pupitar, and Tyranitar Regional Variants Pokemon Fan Art

Due to their cool kaiju-inspired design and strong powers, Tyranitar and its pre-evolutions are popular Pokemon that were cherished by many old-school fans of the franchise. Last year, afan created human forms for Larvitar and its evolutions, reimagining these monsters as three anime-inspired characters. While Larvitar was depicted as a young child with a grey coat, Pupitar became a young person with a long cloak weariong a mask shaped like a pupa. Tyranitar, on the other hand, was drawn as a muscular woman with a huge blade.

While some fans devise fan art that reimagines all of Larvitar’s evolutions, others prefer to focus on the mighty Tyranitar. For example, a fan created arealistic version of Tyranitarthat looked amazing some time ago. The fan devised a 3D model of Tyranitar, keeping most of the original design, but changing it to have realistic textures and thick armor made out of rock.
