Today saw the launch of Sony’sPlayStation 5console. The PlayStation 4 has an impressively successful run, dominating the last console generation. Now Sony is ready for a new console to take over and all indications point to thePS5building off of the PS4’s market share. One thing that’s different is that PlayStation is now headed by Jim Ryan, based out of PlayStation headquarters in California. Despite the change, Jim Ryan wants PlayStation fans to know that there’s a lot to look forward to in the PS5’s future.

In a letter posted to the official PlayStation Blog, Jim Ryan writes about how thankful he is to fans of PlayStation. He says specifically that he’s thankful for fans “cheering us on and keeping us honest” as the team finished the development of thePS5 and its launch games. Ryan goes on to explain that he views PlayStation gamers as the “center of everything” that PlayStation makes and does. For fans, it’s a time to celebrate PlayStation, and for PlayStation, it’s a time to celebrate fans.

Ryan’s letter then segues its way into talking about the PlayStation 5 itself. He goes down the feature list for the console, mentioning the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and the PS5’s 3D audio specifically. He mentions these in the context of how difficult they are to advertise in the current state of the world. As in, it’s impossible to really showcase features that require users to be hands-on when theCOVID-19 pandemicprevents hands-on events.

As such, Ryan’s excited that so many PlayStation fans will get to experience the PS5 for themselves starting today. That they’ll get to experience these features that Ryan doesn’t necessarily believe were explained or marketed to their fullest leading up to launch due to the pandemic. Ryan describes it as a “heartening, and humbling moment” to havePS5 buyersget to experience these features for the first time.

When describing the PS5 itself, Ryan focuses on what he sees as making the PS5 a proper “generational leap” compared to the PS4. He mentions thePS5’s SSDthat PlayStation has spent months saying is a game-changer. He mentions the improved fidelity and performance that PS5 games will have over the previous generation. And he also mentions the PS5’s DualSense controller.

Ryan’s final thoughts describe the launch of the PlayStation 5 as the “dawn of a new generation of gaming,” and that comes across as much as a promise as anything else. Today thePlayStation 5 launches with a solid launch line-uparound it, but there’s a lot for PlayStation 5 owners to look forward to, as well.
