The first new map, that was briefly shown off in the trailers, is Toronto. This is the first look players are getting atOverwatch’s depiction of a futuristic Canada. The urban map is designed with the brand newPush modein mind, according to the developers. The map features everything players might expect from a stereotypical Canadian setting, which includes maple trees, plenty of snow and ice, and of course, a statue of a hockey player. How quaint.
Another map being added forOverwatch 2is Rio De Janeiro. Based on the Brazilian city, this bright map seems to take influence from the favelas and architecture of the real world city. It was also revealed that a variant of this map will be one of the settings for the game’s newPvE story mode, which is only available inOverwatch 2.
Not much is known about the other two maps, Monte Carlo and Gothenburg. The latter is based on the Swedish town where Reinhardt, Brigitte, and Torbjorn hail from. Both of these are multiplayer maps that will be available toOverwatch1players when they launch, presumably alongsideOverwatch 2sometime in 2020.
The gameplay trailer forOverwatch 2only showed a sneak peak of Toronto and the other new maps, but it is worth checking out to try and dig for more clues. For now, there is plenty of new content coming toOverwatchduring the next year while we eagerly await a release date forOverwatch 2.
