Overwatch 2 Competitive UI Mock-Up Imagines if Losses Were Displayed

AnOverwatch 2player created a mock-up of the competitive online shooter’s ranked Competitive Progress menu teasing what it might look like if losses were shown.Overwatch 2is built to be a competitive shooter even in ways that the originalOverwatchwasn’t. Despite that, Blizzard has made some strange design decisions to avoid conveying potentially frustrating information to players. This mock-up shows what it might look if Blizzard let players know that information.

Following every match inOverwatch 2’s ranked mode, players are shown a screen labeled Competitive Progress. This screen shows how many wins theOverwatch 2player has, including the characters and map they played for the win. It also tracks how many wins the player needs before they receive an updated skill tier and division. The currentOverwatch 2Competitive Progress screen does not show losses, even though players' tiers and divisions can also be updated after a number of losses.

Overwatch 2competitive playershave asked Blizzard to share players' losses on the Competitive Progress menu for some time, but Blizzard has so far chosen not to do so. As such, Reddit user Toxicinator decided to create a mock-up showing what it might look like if losses were included on the Competitive Progress screen. Over the top of the listed wins, there are 15 boxes for losses. These boxes fill in with red “x” marks as a player loses matches.

There’s good news to share on the subject, though. Blizzard has confirmed that it’s changed its mind and agrees that players should be given more information about their wins and losses. Unfortunately, the planned changes weren’t ready forOverwatch 2Season 3. Blizzard is targeting Season 4 for the update instead. What it will look like isn’t clear yet, however.

The lack of information regarding playerlosses inOverwatch 2competitive playis just one part of a bigger issue. Why Blizzard decided to only update player tiers and divisions once every 5 wins or 15 losses doesn’t make much sense from a player perspective. It’s ambiguous and slow. ButOverwatch 2players will likely take what victories they can.
