Nintendo has finally revealed when Bowser and his son Bowser Jr were born in theSuper Mariotimeline, but their birthdays are leaving fans baffled. The villainous Bowser made his very first appearance in the originalSuper Mario Bros.game way back in 1985, and he’s been a major thorn in the sides of Mario and the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom ever since. Decades later,Bowser Jr. debuted in 2002’sSuper Mario Sunshine, where he framed Mario for polluting the tropical Isle Delfino as part of his father’s latest plan to kidnap (and marry) Princess Peach. Both father and son are iconic staples of theSuper Mariofranchise and the Nintendo brand overall, making appearances in not only theMariogames, but spin-off titles likeSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, there are still plenty of unresolved mysteries surrounding the Bowsers, namely the identity of Bowser Jr.’s mother. While Nintendo is remaining tight-lipped on howBowser’s beloved son fromMariocame to be, the first-party console powerhouse recently revealed when he and his reptilian father were born - much to the continued confusion of die-hard fans worldwide.RELATED:Gamer Gets 100% in All 9 3D Super Mario Games in One SittingNintendo of America recently released a new YouTube video that teaches Nintendo Switch owners how to make Nintendo Accounts. As was the case when Nintendo presented a similar video aboutthe Switch’s parental controlsback in 2017, Bowser and Bowser Jr were used as an example of a main Nintendo account and a shared account for a child. Eagle-eyed viewers like Twitter user Supper Mario Broth quickly noted that the account information in this video reveals that Bowser was born on May 30, 2025, while Bowser Jr. came into the Nintendo world on July 06, 2025.

As interesting as it might be to finally know the official birthdays of Bowser and Bowser Jr., fans have since pointed out thatneither of these dates make much sensein relation to their first real-world appearances. While Bowser debuted in 1985, his newly revealed birthday reveals that he was born about four years later. Meanwhile, Bowser Jr’s birthdate comes a whooping eight years after the release ofSuper Mario Sunshineon the Nintendo GameCube. If these dates are accurate, then Bowser and his son would have been an adult and adolescent in games that were released before they were born.

To explain this potential headache, someSuper Marioplayers have suggested that the games take place in the future, or that time doesn’t actually exist in the Mushroom Kingdom - hence why none of the characters inSuper Marioseem to age. In any case, fans now know when Bowser and his son were born, even if it does cause a few knots in the Nintendo timeline.
