Marvel Studios has released a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated filmThor: Love And Thunder, which will make its official arrival in theaters on July 8th. Audiences were treated to a brief teaser of the upcoming film in late April, but new footage has officially provided audiences with a first look at Thor’s nefarious new adversary.

The overall focus ofThor: Love And Thunderwill center around the titular character as he ventures out to find inner peace. Chris Hemsworth will be reprising his role as the iconic god of thunder, whose tranquil journey is disturbed by an unsettling galactic presence known as Gorr the God Butcher, played by Oscar winning actor Christian Bale. The new villain seeks to extinguish the gods, which prompts Thor to enlist the help of some familiar faces to combat the troubling threat.

The film’s first teaser introduced the return of Tessa Thompson’s King Valkyrie and Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi’s Korg, alongside the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as the emblematic Mighty Thor. The new Marvel footage offers more from each character and somewhat highlights their roles in the new adventure. However, the most exciting element is the reveal of the galactic menace, which Waititi described as Marvel’s best villain yet.

The trailer reveals some familiar moments seen in the previous footage, but it expands on the pieces somewhat to provide more context. The relationship between Thor and Jane takes on a more prominent role, but what appears to be slightly diminished is the presence of theGuardians of the Galaxy, which was more prevalent in the previous teaser. It may speak to the overall role they will play within the upcoming film, but what can’t be ignored is the menacing presence of Gorr the God Butcher and the command Bale seems to take, harnessing the villainous role.

The first teaser forThor: Love And Thunderdrew significant attention, becoming the fourth most-viewed trailer in 24 hours with 209 million views. The ground-breaking filmSpider-Man: No Way Homecurrently holds the record, but the anticipation Thor’s exciting journey has generated may dethrone the webslinging hero, especially with the emergence of much-desired characters within the new footage. It’s unclear what more will surface regarding this upcoming film before its July release, but what audiences have is something to revel in until the cosmic fight begins.
