Fans of Sega’sSuper Monkey Ballseries have been craving a new installment in the series for almost 8 years now, at least since the release ofSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Splitzfor the PlayStation Vita. While the series made a return last year withSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, a full remake of the 2006 Nintendo Wii game for modern consoles, the remake came as a surprise to many fans as the original was far from the most beloved entry in the series.

Thankfully it seems thatBanana Blitz HDwas just a strange attempt from Sega to gauge interest in the series as Brian Matt, the original voice actor of theSuper Monkey Ballannouncer, has teased that there will be big news regarding the series coming later this month. Matt has been veryopen regarding working on a new titlein theSuper Monkey Ballseries since revealing that he was providing voice work for the game earlier this year.

Now, Brian Matt has posted two potential teases towards impendingSuper Monkey Ballannouncements coming later this month via his Instagram. One of which includes an image ofhim playingSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HDon his friend’s Nintendo Switch with the caption reading “September will be amazing for what’s to come.” The other posts includes an image of Sega’s Akihabara arcade which closed permanently on August 30th, 2020 with the caption “Akihabara arcade closing which means that the flow goes toSuper Monkey Ball X.” It continues “This month the ground will shake. Stay tuned!”

While it seems odd for Sega to allow this voice actor to be the spokesperson for the series, Brian Matt has recently become a major personality for the franchise after it was discovered in late 2019 that he has provided the voice of the announcer since the original game. This followed years of speculation, as the role was left uncredited in every version of the game’s release.

September seems like a good time for Sega to reveal a brand newSuper Monkey Ballgame given that the publisher usually goes big at Tokyo Game Show every year with new game reveals, generally including ones fromYakuzadeveloper Ryu ga Gotoku Studios, the same team behindBanana Blitz HD. Sega and Atlushave a joint panel scheduled for September 25ththat will reveal titles planned for release in “Fall 2020” which, allegedly according to Brian Matt, is when this newSuper Monkey Ballis scheduled for release.
