Netflixhas just released the first exclusive clip from Chris Hemsworth’s upcoming sci-fi thrillerSpiderhead, and it’s equal parts engrossing and terrifying. The video was revealed during the streaming giant’s Netflix Geeked Week 2022, a week dedicated to upcoming projects. Hemsworth himself introduced the scene with a special message for the attendees, and it offers an insight into his dark character.
Spiderheadis the next film from director Joseph Kosinski, who brought therecord-breakingTop Gun: Maverickto life. The extended clip released byNetflixputs Miles Teller’s Jeff and Tess Haubrich’s Heather in the patients’ chairs as Hemsworth’s Steve Abnesti conducts experiments on them. What starts off as a simple conversation between the three quickly turns into the manipulation of emotions and trust, and it is alarming to see how calm Abnesti is during the entire exchange.

The scene begins with Teller’s Jeff seated in what seems like an interrogation room with a pleasant ambience. The scene first appeared inthe officialSpiderheadtrailer, but the extended clip shows what happens next. Haubrich’s Heather then enters the same room, and this is when Abnesti’s experiment begins. He asks the two characters questions about each other’s physical appearance, and even asks them to rate each other “on a scale of one to ten.” It seems like the two are lab rats of some sort, as all their answers and reactions are being recorded. But, the real show begins when Abnesti requests them to “acknowledge” the administration of a drug called N-40, a.k.a. Luvactin.
The drug N-40 is obviously a mind-altering substance, as it immediately impacts both Jeff and Heather’s emotions. The two suddenly look at each other in a completely different light, with Jeff referring to Heather as the “most beautiful woman” he has ever seen, and Heather shifting in her seat shyly before telling Jeff that he is “stunning and gorgeous.” After professing their love for each other, the two stand to kiss passionately, as Abnesti and his lab partner watched on.
Spiderheadpromises to be a “darkly psychological thriller,” and will see Abnesti performing experiments on multiple inmates at a facility. The plot will put prisoners in a situation where they could volunteer to become guinea pigs in said experiments, which involve mind-altering drugs, in order to reduce their sentences. Teller’s Jeff, however, will get too deeply involved and develop feelings for fellow prisoner Rachel, played by Jurnee Smollett. The film will follow his journey to break free from the effects of the drugs and save Rachel. It remains to be seen whether he will succeed, or whether Hemsworth’s doctor will have the upper hand.
Spiderheadpremieres on Netflix on August 01, 2025.
