The road to Ubisoft’s pirate game has been an incredibly long one.Skull and Boneswas originally announcedall the way back in 2017 and has been subjected to numerous delays. It originally started as anAssassin’s Creed 4DLC project before morphing into a fully new IP which, in turn, went through several variations. As the years went on, the game became better known for its numerous production issues than any content within the project itself. Now players will have to accept the fact the earliest playable version of the game will not be available on consoles.

During the recent Ubisoft Forward event, the company confirmed thatBeta plans were in place forSkull and Bones. According to Insider Gaming, the upcoming Beta, however, will not be available for consoles and will only be on PC. While signups for the close Beta were originally available for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X on the website, Ubisoft has since removed them, giving the report more credibility. Furthermore, a developer on the game told the site that the Beta was never actually intended for consoles.

As mentioned above, the game has been subjected to numerous delays. UbisoftdelayedSkull and Bonesin Januaryand canceled three other unannounced projects making it the sixth time the game had been delayed. Afterward, the company stated that it would be released sometime in the 2023/2024 fiscal year but stopped short of giving it a more narrow release window. The closed Beta is currently set to go live from August 25 to 28.

Despite the situation thatSkull and Boneshas found itself in, Ubisoft still has several other properties that are moving forward. The company finally gavegamers a look atStar Wars Outlaws, revealed a newPrince of Persiagame titledThe Lost Crown, and showed off the gameplay forAvatar: Frontiers of PandoraandAssassin’s Creed Mirage. How gamers will respond to theSkull and BonesBeta and how it will affect the release of the long-delayed project, however, remains to be seen.
