With the next season ofHulu’sOnly Murders in the Buildingfast approaching, fans are itching to know what sorts of fine messes the plucky trio of true crime podcasters have gotten themselves into this time. Thanks to a new trailer, the picture of what to expect has finally become clearer, and in true mystery tradition, it’s brought up several new questions in the process.

Fans of the show have a lot to look forward to, especially afterOnly Murders in the Buildingannounced several new and returning charactersfor its second season. Based on the new trailer fromHulu, it looks as though they’re all going to be more than just a few cameos, with everybody around them suddenly becoming a suspect once again. Season 1 ended with the main characters solving one murder only to be apparently framed for another. Now, between old grudges and new faces, it looks as though anyone could be responsible.

The first trailer forOnly Murders in the Buildingseason 2 already teased the trio’s return to podcasting and crime-solving, but this time, things have become a bit more clear. The new trailer features glimpses at all the new characters, includingValerian and the City of a Thousand Planetsstar Cara Delevingneas gallery owner and Mabel’s love interest Alice and even film legend Shirley MacLaine as the mother of the victim. Also shown are returning stars Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas and Amy Ryan as Jan, both of whom have ample reasons to hold a grudge against the murder-solving friends. Michael Rappaport makes an appearance as Detective Kreps, with Amy Schumer briefly showing up as her new character as well, all intercut with Mabel stating, “We need to find the real killer.”

Only Murders in the Buildingstars Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short as former TV star Charles-Haden Savage, artist Mabel Mora, and struggling stage director Oliver Putnam, respectively. The 3 unlikely friends found themselves bonding over a mutual love for a true-crime podcast, inspiring them to begin their own to solve a murder that took place in their shared apartment building. After a number of dead-end leads and a few burnt bridges, they found the killer just in time to become the center of another investigation. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait too long before theOnly Murders in the Buildingthe season 2 premiere date.

The show combines cozy mystery with genuine suspense and a satisfying amount of humor, particularly thanks to comedy icons Short and Martin in 2 of the lead roles. Based on the new trailer, it looks as though that idea is still in full force, notably during the shot where Short’s Oliver frantically yells, “Why am I holding this knife?!” as a stranger comes knocking. BetweenOnly Murders in the BuildingandApple TV Plus’The Afterparty, which just added a slew of new stars including Ken Jeong and John Cho, it looks like the comedy murder mystery is experiencing a renaissance of its own right now. So, excitement for the next season of both shows is certainly high.
