Summary
WhileDeadpool and Wolverineis still a few months out from premiering, the powers that be at Marvel Studios and Disney seem to be getting fans prepared for the film’s ensemble performance by adding one iconic pre-MCU project to Disney+.
Deadpool and Wolverineis easily one ofthe most highly anticipated movie sequels of 2024, serving both as the debuts of Ryan Reynold’s fan favorite Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as the only cinematic release from the studio this year. One of the major features of the film is its purportedly massive cast and number of cameos from new and returning Marvel characters, many of which are still largely hidden in the fog of pre-release secrecy. While some of these rumors seem entirely unlikely, others have had some degree of legitimacy given via casting or BTS photos showing off some of their scenes in the film.

While this has left casting rumors flying all over the place, leading toa formerFantastic Fourstar having to clear the airconcerning their involvement, others are getting more substantial.
2003’s Daredevil Addition To The Library Hints Elektra’s Debut To The MCU
As highlighted byThe Direct,Disney+ has recently added the 2003 filmDaredevilto its already massive streaming library,a Ben Affleck-led Marvel movie from before the dawn of Marvel Studios or the MCU. Of interest to fans of the upcoming Deadpool threequel is that this film also stars Jennifer Garner (who has been pegged to star in Deadpool 3) as the assassin turned antihero Elektra Natchios. All signs point to a role reprisal for Garner as well as an MCU debut for Elektra, and the film’s addition to the streaming service so close to the release ofDeadpool and Wolverineseems to serve as both a confirmation and a chance for fans to go back to and appreciate Garner’s first performance in the role.
Garner’s return is a notable one, but might also get lost in the purported shuffle on the set of Deadpool and Wolverine due to the sheer amount of characters involved. Releasing theDaredevilfilm on Disney+ seems like a great way to ensure that she gets some recognition when she appears in the film. The character of Elektra is also set to make an appearance on the small screen, though the onlycasting done forDaredevil: Born Again’sElektra is in fanart.
These two points are a plus for the MCU, asElektra fits well into the street-level themethat the franchise was reported to be making a subtle shift to in the news cycle a while ago. It might also be fun for casuals to see Affleck’s take on Matt Murdock now that he’s become even more prominent an actor than he was at the time. Comparisons of his time as Daredevil to his time as the DCEU’s Batman could prove quite entertaining.
While it currently looks likeit’s a good thing thatDeadpool and Wolverinewill be 2024’s only MCU film, that only holds true if its theatrical run is actually a success. There’s a lot of expectation riding on the movie, and while Deadpool has a lot of goodwill with the fans, the film leans heavily into some of the tropes that might be at the center of fan fatigue concerning the franchise. Fans themselves will just have to wait and see how things play out when it premieres.
Deadpool and Wolverineis currently set for theatrical release on June 11, 2025.
